Perhaps some of these cuts will help many Boneyarder's recognize how hard it is to make a roster. It is much more difficult than it was even a few years ago. Except for the elite players the best remaining players are not always guaranteed to make a roster. A lot of luck is involved as well. To make a roster a player has to fill a need and be ready to contribute right from the beginning. There are no developmental players in the WNBA.

It would also help is certain aging players, who are hanging on purely through reputation were to retire and allow younger players an opportunity for a spot.

Are you referring to these future HOFers or other WNBA players?

  • Bird (41)
  • Taurasi (39)
  • Parker (36)
  • Fowles (36) - retiring after this season
  • McCoughtry (35)

Crystal proved herself either in her 2 years in the W or overseas
I, personnaly, don't understand this number thing Reeve was talking about (salary cap ?)

I thought that it had to do with her playing statistics & rankings.

I think this is a league that is struggling to manage their last collective bargaining agreement - which was seen as a big win for players - no one anticipated all the ramifications of the combination of hard caps and max contracts. The max contracts eat away at that cap quickly so teams struggle to fit 11 players under the cap let alone 12.

This is going become even more of a nightmare once the league starts enforcing the overseas commitment rules and half a roster of veterans may be declared ineligible.

2020 players were playing in the wobble with quite a lot of player missing and a shortened season so rookie numbers while impressive might be inflated - and like any pro sport, teams and players spend a lot of time scouting opponents and opponents players.

An impressive rookie especially someone who is an outlier in some way may have a much easier first 20 games as players and teams search for ways to defend them and defensively exploit them. It is possible that a 21 game rookie campaign was a perfect 'honeymoon' for Danger and she has struggled to counter what the league has learned about her game.

She went from starter because we need you, to bench because we need you on a really good team
She proved she was a team first

I really think (hope) The Lynx will call her to replace one of the 3 unava
ilables
The problem is she has to clear waivers. All it takes is one team to claim her, and she's gone.

Do you really think Geno/CD win 11 NC without Bird, Taurasi, Tina, Maya, Stewie - who will all be Hall of Famers?
did he have those 3 players at the same time in their prime for 8 years?

Ive always said Reeve did not like Dangerfield bc of her size. After winning ROY in the bubble the very next season she went to find a replacement an older vet without any offensive regiment who just dribbles the ball 20 of the 24 sec shot clock as proof.

Looks like it.
Then again, I believe that it was Minnesota that got the # 8 and # 13
draft picks for next year when the Las Vegas Aces " traded up" for
those slots in this year's draft ( players that were later waived!)

Fact 1. You know darn well UConn WBB career is 4 years, except for extra Covid.

Fact. You know darn well Geno/CD do not win 11 NC without the future HOF talent they had. Geno/CD know it.

Fact. After the UConn recent loss in the 2022 NCAA championship, Geno said that UConn had the more talented team in 10 of his 11 NC. Those teams had POY and/or AA.

Complaining about the Minnesota coach winning 4 WNBA titles with future HOF is ridiculous - unless you are going to complain about Geno/CD winning NC with future HOF and multiple AA.

Anyone hating on the Minnesota coach because Dangerfield was waived needs to look in the mirror.

Basketball is a sport. WNBA is a business. NCAA is a business. Waives/Cuts and Transfers are part of the businesses. Does not mean anyone has to like it, of course.

That’s probably going to end up helping the situation by creating more spots.

If the WNBA is run as a totally independent business entity without some of the financial backings from the NBA, would it have survived all these years?

Doubt it. Supply and Demand problem for the WNBA. People are not obligated to pay to watch the WNBA.

Instead of WNBA players or executives expecting more financial assistance from the NBA, maybe the WNBA should figure out how to attract investors, competent owners, and thousands more paying customers.

1999 USA soccer women's national team figured out how to attract people to pay to watch the World Cup tournament. Prior to that 1999 WWC, not many were watching the USA WNT.

Not familiar with the WNBA rules but could many of these cuts be a tactic to be able to resign the player at a lower salary? Sad - many of these maneuvers appear to over just a few thousand bucks.
