I know that adidas is the main shoe company involved, but there's a connection to Nike in all of this and that is through Merl Code. Code was arrested and named in this court document. He was the Director of Nike's EYBL program for several years.

Would not be surprised if Code decides to give some dirt on Nike affiliated programs to save his own skin. Will be interesting to see what happens here.

Former Clemson player Merl Code Jr., USC coach charged in federal fraud case
Code is a Southside High School graduate and was a standout point guard at Clemson from 1993-1997. Until recently he was the director of Nike’s elite youth basketball program, according to the complaint. Kim called him a “business affiliate” of another major sportswear company that Gatto also worked for, known to be Adidas.

Is there any doubt really? At this point you just hope and pray your school's staff is somehow not involved.

Amateurism as we know it will be ground to dust. The NCAA could have nipped this in the bud years and years ago but now they'll just look like a massive pile of incompetence.

Yeah, there's enough people looking at potential jail time that you'd have to think when they keep pulling that thread, more and more programs and individuals are going to be implicated.

The coaches caught up in this are not exactly hardened criminals and will flip in a second to save themselves even a day of jail time.

Posted this in the other thread, but seems pertinent here.

Prior to his first stint at Washington, Chillious served a year as a business manager for Nike’s Elite Youth Basketball in Beaverton, Ore., where his responsibilities included leading a team that conducted clinics and camps throughout the United States and foreign locations, identifying young basketball talent.

Betting odds the Feds are turning Code as we speak.

Not sure how the experts would weigh in on this one (@August_West) but canned tuna is vile.
Ate a can the day we got Emmitt! The Rolling Rock of recruiting luck unless the tuna bites us in the butt.

Chill worked in the EYBL division for a year in 2007-2008. It seems far enough, he worked 8 years with Washington before we picked him up, but who knows.

Sounds like this may be the time for UConn to get in early on the ground level of Big Baller Brand! :)
They’re already negotiating with UCLA to replace Adidas.

I said in one of the other threads that this is scary stuff. You never know who is going to get caught up in this. But ultimately, it might level the playing field some when it comes to recruiting. If money had been a big part of the reasons that 5 stars chose their schools, and suddenly you take the money out (or at least out of the beginning of the process) it could get interesting. People always thought 5 stars picked between around 10 schools because of exposure when in reality most could play anywhere and still make the league when they were ready. Maybe it wasn't just the exposure.
