The title says it all.


Oh, lawdy miss Clawdy, isn't youtube wonderful? I read a biography of Coltrane called Chasin' the Trane, in which the author talked about some performances like this. There was one where Coltrane was taking like a 20 minute solo (I think during My Favorite Things), and he split his lip open. He kept playing till the blood jammed the keys. He had to go backstage and McCoy took a solo, probably the other guys too. Trane came back about 20 minutes later, lip stanched and sax cleaned up and picked up as though nothing had happened.

I've seen McCoy Tyner and Elvin Jones live, both wonderful shows, I was six when Coltrane died, so missed out on that.
