As the longest standing ACC fan on this board.... figured I would go ahead and post this.

Remarkably close agreement by the panel and coaches.

I'll go on record as saying Syracuse will be in the top 4 (ACC) at seasons end. I'd go even higher but Q is not a great in-game coach. The talent is there to be top 10 nationally, but the coaching will make top 15 the reality .

I miss being in the ACC.
I was on campus awhile back for the first time in a few years, and I just couldn’t get my head around all the B1G banners. It’s just . . . wrong.

Hard to believe a top 5 in the ACC without Notre Dame.
I already said I will paint my face blue on a work day if Duke finishes ahead of Norte Dame in the ACC standings.

I would be shocked if ND finishes any lower than 4th, and I think they’re more likely 2nd or 3rd.

Wow, felt like I was looking at a field hockey preview (and ND does not have a field hockey team!). ;)

The obvious and bad news is that virtually all of the scoring from last year is elsehwhere. The good news is that Coach MM and staff have some pretty solid talent to put on the floor. Largely untested, yes, but still pretty talented. Will undoubtedly take some knocks early and there will be growing pains, for sure. But I think they'll improve as the season progresses.

Look for Stanford transfer Marta Sniezek (point guard) and post Mik Vaughn to hold the fort early. A lot will depend on how guard Gilbert comes back from injury and how (quickly, hopefully) frosh Anaya Peoples and Sam Brunelle acclimate to the collegiate level.

BTW, ND just added another resource to the coaching tool kit: Kayla McBride (a.k.a., K-Mac) is not playing overseas this winter and has joined the Irish staff as Manager of Player Development, joining new assistant coach Michaela Mabrey.

Are you saying that you expect Duke to finish higher than 7th? What's your prediction?

Ill wait until I see us in person. First look will be this Sunday at our Scrimmage... then our exhibition game on Nov 3. You can throw out the record book when the Seawolves and the Blue Devils meet on the Sunday when Daylight Savings Ends

This is what I wrote back in August in defense of Antonelli's top 5.

I didn't mention any freshman back then. Peoples and Brunelle will play a lot for ND -- they don't have enough players for them not to play a lot. I think 4th or 5th at best for the Irish.

Louisville

Significant returning players include Dana Evans (10.4 ppg) Jazz Jones (7.6), Bionca Dunham (7.6 ppg), Kylee Shook (7.1 ppg), Lindsay Duvall (3.1 ppg), Mykasa Robinson (1.7 ppg). With those players Louisville returns 37.5 ppg. Add in Elizabeth Balogun (14.6 ppg) and Elizabeth Dixon (11.0 ppg) and Louisville's ppg jumps to 58.3.

NC State

Significant returning players include Grace Hunter (14.6 ppg), E Cunane (13.6 ppg), A Konig (10.7 ppg), K Crutchfield (6.2 ppg), E Cassell (6.6 ppg) and K Jones (4.7 ppg). NC State's returns 56.4 ppg.

Florida State

Significant returning players include K Gillespie (16.2 ppg), N Ekhomu (15.0 ppg), N Woolfolk (13.5 ppg), V Myers (8.9 ppg), M Jones (5.2 ppg), S Wilkinson (3.1 ppg). FSU returns 61.2 ppg.

Miami

Significant returning players include B Mompremier (16.7 ppg), M Gray (12.6 ppg), K Marshall (7.8 ppg), E Banks (3.8 ppg). Miami returns 40.9 ppg.

Duke

Significant returning players include H Gorecki (17.2 ppg), L Odom (13.1),M Goodchild (10.9 ppg), J Williams (8.4 ppg) for a total of 49.6 ppg.

Notre Dame

Significant returning players include M Vaughn (3.3 ppg), A Prohaska (1.5 ppg) and K Gilbert (3.6 ppg in injury-shortened season), That's 8.4 ppg from returning players who played some significant minutes. Two grad transfers will be counted on to play a lot -- M Sniezek and D Walker. Sniezek has always struggled to score, averaging ~ 4 ppg in 3 years at Stanford. D Walker was a legit double digit scorer for UNC (12-14 ppg) but played just a couple of games in '18-19 and missed all of the '17-18 season. Where will the points come from?

I'm interested to see who out of Vaughn, Prohaska, and Gilbert can step up for Notre Dame. Reminds me a little bit of Mississippi State, as 12.6 PPG from Holmes, Danberry, Bibby, and Scott in 17-18 turned into 40.1 PPG in 18-19. If Notre Dame can get a similar jump from 3-4 of their returnees + Sniezek and Walker + Peoples and Brunelle, I think they'll be more than okay.

In the ACC "All Access" show about ND WBB, Michaela Mabrey says that she thinks Gilbert should be their leading scorer this year. I also think Vaughn is ready for a major leap and will anchor their interior. Prohaska will be a glue player, most likely off the bench. Peoples and Brunelle will also get plenty of minutes and contribute meaningfully; I believe one or both will be in the starting lineup by January.

Having McCowan controlling the paint and attracting triple teams sure helped. Howard on the boards helped too.

McGraw says ND will score in the 60s this season. Last year's team, with Turner and Shepard controlling the boards and the paint, gave up 67 ppg.

The only downside to Gilbert is she seems to have an "injury cloud" floating over her. Just after getting the ok to join work outs, she tweaked a muscle. Geesh. If she and North Carolina transfer Destinee Walker (just started practicing) take a while to ramp up, I'm pretty certain Peoples and Brunelle will both be in the starting lineup, with Gilbert hopefully joining them (and Sniezek and Vaughn.) I'll let you know what I see at their opening game, which I'm attending at Fordham's Rose Hill gymnasium!

MM thought last year's team had, at best, a veiled indifference to defense; in part because they thought they could outscore an opponent (which in most instances, they did).

She's been looking for players to get back to working at defense and is very pleased with newcomers Sniezek and Peoples (in particular), as well as returnee Prohaska. Still, Mik Vaughn is the only backstop at this point and she can be foul prone. Will be an intersting year that could require patience (not a trait one associates with McGraw, for better or worse). Stay tuned.
