wonder what the per school payout is for the ACC or Big 12?A 40% bump for the Big East would be at least $6.4 million per year. Not bad at all. As long as we keep the same or better linear TV coverage and get a 40% bump, I would be very happy.
For the basketball component (assuming 20% of contract), about 6-7 million per school.wonder what the per school payout is for the ACC or Big 12?

Not for TV. Big 12 is 32 million; ACC is about 35 million. Also, those schools have the expense of football (unlike the majority of the Big East). If you look at basketball budgets (as of 21/22), every Big East school is in the top 86.correct answer is 38 million minimum for ACC and 42 million minimum for the Big 12.
but we do have football, so 6.4 million isn't going to work. Not for TV. Big 12 is 32 million; ACC is about 35 million. Also, those schools have the expense of football (unlike the majority of the Big East). If you look at basketball budgets (as of 21/22), every Big East school is in the top 86.
It works for basketball which is the discussion at hand regarding the Big East.but we do have football, so 6.4 million isn't going to work.
I think that is the point. Being in the Big East does not work for UConn. The contract could go up 200% and still not work for UConn, because as much as people do not like it, the basketball and football teams are connected and not going anywhere. It works for basketball which is the discussion at hand regarding the Big East.
At 7 million, we would earn more than any G5 team. Of course it would work. Unless something crazy happens with ACC in the next couple of months, the goal is to get enough money to keep basketball elite and football respectable until the next cataclysm happens. That is 100% achievable with a 40% increase in media rightsI think that is the point. Being in the Big East does not work for UConn. That’s the funny part. It’s like giving a homeless guy with $1 in the cup a $5 bill. Congrats on the 500% increase- you now have $6I don't see the actual $ value anywhere, which is really what we need to know. a 40% increase may not be all that impressive if they were making crap to begin with.
So the homeless guy can now afford a decent meal? Not sure whats the point youre trying to make. That’s the funny part. It’s like giving a homeless guy with $1 in the cup a $5 bill. Congrats on the 500% increase- you now have $6
I am thrilled for the A10 that they can finally afford a Happy MealSo the homeless guy can now afford a decent meal? Not sure whats the point youre trying to make.
Sure, the amount might be a rounding error for the 1% but for someone making minimum wage, a 40% raise would go a long way
The Big 12 offered Gonzaga $2 million a year. Hard pass.$6M is almost bad enough to consider a Hoop only Big 12 deal.
