The thing about the 2011 team was that on the whole - it was a just a lot, lot better than we thought it was going to be leading into the season. They beat god knows how many good, ranked teams early on. Then just as everyone began paying attention, we hit the skids dramatically enough for everyone to check out. Then we go on another nuclear tear in the post season. We got the glass slipper tag because I think the media was looking for a narrative, and whatever. It was fine. But we were also a #3 seed after finishing 9th in our conference. So at worst - the committee seeded us as the 12th best team heading in *in spite* of the mid season skid. And a lot of the under the hood numbers suggested we were a lot better than we were getting credit for. My point being - the skid was the outlier in our performance that year. Not the winning streak at the end.
But given the sheer number of ranked teams we beat (and even trashed) I think the narrative that we weren't that good is kind of silly.
