We’re inside four weeks to go, so the host picture is getting clearer. If the bracket falls right, they could go back to South Bend for the second straight year, or get shipped to Blacksburg to play a dangerous Hokies team. Louisville and Charlottesville also a possibility.

Regardless, based on their low RPI, despite their record and solid play, their regional is going to be a slog and I would bet money on it being one of the tougher regionals. This projection (Tennessee, Georgia Tech, UConn, Coppin State) is brutal

We have started every weekend with a victory. Austin Petersen with a marvelous performance and Donlan with a clutch Home run. The game could be a preview of what we will see in tournament play, with teams 2 aces battling it out. Hope rain holds off, and lets win the series today.

Go Huskies !!!

The consistency of performance of AP individually and our three weekend starters collectively has really been unbelievable this year. A great as AP has been, we’ve had #1’s pitch like that before. What we haven’t had, and what explains why we’re playing absurd .826 baseball, is that our #2 and #3 starters are pitching at very close to the same level.

The weekend starting rotation for UConn has often formed the basic core of many of the Husky baseball teams during the Penders era. To give a couple of examples, not too long ago UConn had years of Kay, Cate, and Montgomerie in the weekend starting rotation, followed by a year of Cate, Montgomerie, and Feole. One thing that has happened this year so far is that none of the weekend starters have missed a start. That is a very rare thing indeed.

One of the big differences this season for the stunning winning percentage for this team is that not only did UConn have an excellent weekend starting rotation, but it is combined with one of the better fielding UConn baseball teams, plus this has to be one of the best hitting teams that UConn has put together all the way from the top to the bottom of the order. Not much in the way of weak spots in the batting order, plus some really nice depth on the bench.

We also have had really good to great mid week starters which has been an issue in the past. Cooke was dominant against USC and BC and Chudoba has been a battler and done very well also.

We just continue to win series. Watched game on TV today, kudos to anyone at game. Looked like it was freezing up at Storrs. Pat Gallagher with a tough outing, but our bullpen picked him up. He has actually pitched great this season, with his only other sub par outing being his first start. Was really impressed by Ben Huber's glove at First Base. He was incredibly smooth. We have now won 14 of 18 games decided by 1 or 2 runs. Also our RPI has gone up to #35. Really love following this team.

Lets get the sweep tomorrow.

@ucjoet has been doing this all season for several season's now. Not bad at all.
And I always appreciate your Yeoman's work in the game threads.
There's probably about 5 or 6 people on the BY that if they left en masse, this place would suffer. You, medic and Joe are 3 of them for me.

I get to say it again, we sweep the weekend series. This time vs 2nd place Creighton, to virtually lock up a #1 seed in BE tourney. Our chart below keeps getting greener and greener, except for RPI in "Something More Aggressive" category. We have been inching closer over last few weeks, and have an opportunity this weekend to inch even closer. After a mid week game vs Northeastern, we play Xavier next weekend. I believe their RPI is mid to high 70's. So maybe (with a great week /weekend), we can get our RPI to below 30.

As most of you probably notice, I don't post much during games. But I follow games by all of you that do post, and I want to thank you for your work. I know I am going to miss someone ( and I apologize), but below are poster that kept UConn baseball nation informed during today's game. And for most part, they are the same posters that do it for every game. So a BIG Thank You to the following.

As long as trends continue, I think we are just about guaranteed to make the tournament. If our only loss going forward is in the BET, I’d say we are locked in.

Louisville is, shockingly, our best friend here. They have some tough series coming up, against top 10 opponents in UVA and Virginia Tech, but god does it help if they can win those. I don’t think anyone else can shift up a quadrant, but if USC and BC could make sure they stay in the top 100 that’d be just ducky.

The number one thing that sucks the most for us is that we are rather more dependent on certain teams having a good run down the last few weeks to determine our overall destiny. We still control our own destiny for the most part, because we can just win win win, but those teams (Lville, Xavier in non-UConn games, BC, USC) help or hurt us at the margins.

At what RPI number does the host conversation actually happen? Assuming we lose no more than once between now and NCAA’s (a tall task, but we’ve met nearly every other tall task this season so why not) and go into the tourney at 50-9 or something, what RPI would we need to be on the list, given the optics of our poll rankings and having a non-traditional host? Better than 25? Would it even matter if it’s not 16 or better?

I like many have tried to keep this thought out of mind given the SOS shortcomings this season and have just been enjoying the ride and the racked-up Ws, but as we’ve seen our RPI shoot up from 60 to 35 in a couple weeks, I’m now thinking about it.

I know it's not necessarily meaningful, but given all the talk from national analysts up until like last week that our at large resume wasn't even a lock I've pretty much put any chance at hosting out of my head. I guess to put a number on it I think we'd have to end up with an RPI of something like 15-20 before they'd even consider it. Feel like it's not realistic so at this point I'm just hoping to move up enough to avoid a tough 1 seed region

I know UConn's schedule has been very light but is there any viable scenario you see where they move into the discussion for hosting?

12:01
Brad -- The RPI is sitting in the mid 30s right now, and would probably need to get into the mid20s to have a shot. With that said, there's definitely a pathway there. If UCONN cruised the rest of the regular season and destroyed the field in the Big East tourney, it would have around 50 wins with a Top 10 human ranking. That would be a tough team to turn down as a host if UCONN is within striking distance.

See quote above for my question to Kendall regarding the host question. Seems like a possibility with continued strong play.

Of course, I posted that and then watched as Gallagher and Enzo had consecutive big time off days. That's on me. I won't make that mistake again.

It's first, all about the pitching and UConn has had it so far this year
Secondly, while the team may not have a SoS that the AAC could afford, this team has exhibited an uncanny trait of when they fall behind they never think of anything but coming back and winning, that will hopefully pay huge dividends in the post season.
If the bats remain noisy, the wins will come more than not.
This years squad is super fun to watch

Not much to say about yesterday's game, except this is baseball and you just don't win every game. I believe Tennessee lost twice last week. Just need to regroup vs a pretty decent Xavier team this weekend.

Go Huskies !!!
