BTN will host Maryland Day and Rutgers Day on BTN on 7/31 and 8/1 respectively. The lineup has been announced and is below. This made me wonder what a UConn Day might look like on BTN??? If UConn ever joins the B1G, what former games should be part of UConn Day to be welcomed to the B1G? I'm guessing a UConn Day would be similar to Maryland Day in format, which is more basketball heavy. Keep in mind that the welcome is men's sports focused. Maryland has 1 women's game featured - women's lacrosse; Rutgers has no women's game featured; Nebraska had 1 women's game featured - volleyball. Realistically, UConn Women's Sports would have to be summed up in one game and one game only.

Here are the lineups for Maryland and Rutgers (and Nebraska from 2011):

Maryland Day (4 Men's Basketball Games, 2 Football Games; 1 Women's Lacrosse Game, 1 B1G Welcome Show)
Men's Basketball: 2002 National Championship Game - Maryland vs Indiana
Men's Basketball: 2003 Maryland at Florida (Williams 300th win over #1 ranked team)
Men's Basketball: 1986 Maryland @ North Carolina (Len Bias 35 pts)
Men's Basketball: 1984 ACC Championship - Maryland vs Duke (Len Bias named MVP)
Men's Football: 1984 Maryland @ Miami (comeback win after trailing 31-0 at halftime)
Men's Football: 2010 North Carolina State @ Maryland (Danny OBrian 417 yards, 4 Tds passing)
Women's Lacrosse: 2014 National Championship - Maryland vs Syracuse (this years national championship game)
Big Ten Welcomes Maryland (one hour special)

Rutgers Day (5 Football Games; 1 Basketball Game, 1 Documentary; 1 B1G Welcome Show)
Football: 2006 Louisville at Rutgers
Football: 2006 Texas Bowl - Rutgers vs. Kansas State
Football: 2011 Pinstripe Bowl - Rutgers vs. Iowa State
Football: 2008 Papajohns.com Bowl: Rutgers vs. North Carolina State
Football: 2004 Rutgers vs. Michigan State
Men's Basketball: 2004 NIT Semifinals: Rutgers vs. Iowa State
Big Ten Welcomes Rutgers
Rutgers Football - 15 Days of Spring

And if you go back to 2011, here is the Nebraska lineup, which was a three day event...

Nebraska Welcome Weekend (3 Football Games; 1 Volleyball Game, 5 Documentaries, 1 B1G Welcome Show)
Football: 1998 Orange Bowl - Nebraska vs. Tennessee
Football: 1995 Orange Bowl - Nebraska vs. Miami
Football: 2010 Missouri @ Nebraska
Women's Volleyball: 2006 NCAA National Championship - Nebraska vs. Stanford
Big Ten Welcomes Nebraska
It's Crystal Clear - Nebraska 1997 National Championship
Finished Business - Nebraska 1994 National Championship
Decade of Dominance - 1995 Nebraska Football
Reflection of Perfection - Nebraska 1995 National Championship
Day by Day: Team of Destiny - 2005 Nebraska Baseball

Sure it has to be a day? We could give ya about a week of national/conference titles.

Yes, BTN has to pay fees to acquire the rights to games. Those fees are negotiated and its entirely possible a great game isn't included because the rights to it would cost too much. Nebraska Football only got 3 football games - 2 of their national championships and 1 regular season Big 12 game.

If four men's basketball games are featured for UConn, realistically, only 1-2 of those games are National Championship Games, so you would need to rank those based on which you would rather see. You would also need to include 2 or 3 regular season games/Big East Tournament Games on your list. It would all come down to what BTN could negotiate in terms of rights fees.

You'd show the ND football game and the South Florida game that sent them to the Fiesta.

You'd want the Allen/Iverson BET game, the 99 NC game and the HCC Georgetown game from 90-91.

For the women take the game where they drilled ND after dumping three games against them in the same season.

FB win over ND
FB win over USCe in B'ham
FB first BE win over Pitt
FB multiple OT win over Pitt
FB OT win over UL right before they wet on to beat UF in Sugar
FB thrashing of WF when transitioning from 1AA to D1
FB win over Seneca Wallace led Iowa State during our transition season

I'd go with the bold games/documentaries below (2 Football, 3 MBB + bonus MBB documentary, 1 WBB, 1 B1G Welcome Show) but would substitute for a non-bolded option too.

Football games to choose from:
1. ND away win (first win after Jasper Howard's murder...OT thriller)
2. Papa John's bowl win over South Carolina (nice Kashif Moore one handed sideline grab for a TD in this game)
3. Home game win against Baylor (need a Rent game in the package plus you get a RGIII bonus...exciting game)
4. Home game win against Pitt 2011 (the famous Jordan Todman 4th and 1 4th Q run on our own 21 yard line)
5. Home game win against Indiana (first game at the Rent and a B1G team bonus...highlighted by an amazing Terry Caulley run)

MBB to choose from:
1999 NC over Duke ("Shock the World!")
Ray Allen vs Allen Iverson Big East Final at MSG
2014 NC over Kentucky (The page officially and successfully turns from Jim Calhoun to Kevin Ollie)
2011 Big East Tourney Run special - highlights of the never-to-be-done-again 5 wins in 5 days in the best hoops conference at MSG (special Kemba tribute)

2004 NC over GT (A blowout right from the beginning but still fun to see Okafor dominate the paint)
Big East Final against Pitt (Taliek Brown half court 3 pointer)
2011 NC over Butler (this game was a snoozer for anyone not rooting heavily for UCONN but a NC is a NC)
Tate George buzzer beater against Clemson (really the defining moment of Calhoun's early years)

WBB:
I'll default to the WBB fans on the 'Yard for input here

Soccer National Championship 2000

I like this list but a few alterations:
- In the 2004 season, you need the 79-78 Final Four win over Duke, not the blowout national championship over Georgia Tech, which was anticlimatic and boring even for UConn fans. We knew the victory was in hand as soon as the Duke game concluded.
- In the 2011 season, you need the 56-55 Final Four win over Kentucky or the 65-63 Elite Eight win over Arizona rather than the championship game, also anticlimatic.

For those who aren't UConn fans, a little explanation:
- The 1990 "Dream Season" Tate George buzzer beater over Clemson to make the Elite Eight was a fantastic game, but that team was amazing fun to watch. Pressure, steals galore, teamwork on offense, it was a signature of Jim Calhoun's ability to craft a terrific team that could play with anybody from players with less athletic talent than the top teams. It was a real threat to win the national championship, and though it ended up losing in the Elite Eight, it was a preview of what Jim Calhoun could do once he recruited more talent.
- The 1999 NC over Duke is required - fantastic game, top two teams in the country down to the wire, not often the national championship game is also the best game of the year. This was also a time when early departures were less common and the quality of basketball was higher.

ND win in FB plus BE title game. BB, plenty to pick from but I definitely favor the 2014 wins by both teams: emphasizes that we've won both in the same year twice and no one else has done it, plus the women's game matched two unbeaten teams, the only time that's happened.

I agree with Dooley's additions. I think you need to have at least 1 game with Cardiac Kemba. And I think the South Carolina football game would be good because it might be the first time a B1G school beat an SEC school on the gridiron...

BIGOSU thanks for the original post. It made for a good thread. Really what you are asking is which of our victories are the most memorable or most exciting. You seem to anticipate, as I expect many of your peers might, that we do not have any games that are noteworthy or memorable. As you see that it not the case with a bowl win over an SEC opponent and a road win over a storied program like Notre Dame. Our unfortunate choice of the immediately prior head coach has distracted fans of the other program from our fairly meteoric to a competent and competitive Div1/BCS football program. We I think we have the right time to get it back on that upward trajectory. Hopefully when that happens the perception of our viability of the football program will change as well.

Pitt in double PT (DJ throws it out if the stadium)

The Larry Taylor Unfair Catch vs. UoL.

PJ Bowl vs Scar.

Snow game vs. USF.

BB would need its own channel.

I agree with you input on some of our pre Finals games being better than the Championship Games (2004, 2011). I think the B1G, as a conference, is starving for championships. And with all due respect towards RU fencing, our BTN special would be loaded with them. Perhaps a special montage of the 2004 and 2011 runs to replace the CG themselves?

Here's something else to consider: 2009 football documentary: "Play every play like it's your last". Our losses were by a combined 14 pts (or something like that) and it would include the ND win and beating the p1ss out of South Carolina. That 2009 team was BY FAR my favorite in our short history.

No losses. The BTN doesn't want heartbreak losses to an ACC team. Lose the Cuse loss and replace it with any BET win against them. We have plenty of wins against the Fruit that we don't need to submit a loss as one our highlight games as a welcome.

I mean sports is an entertainment enterprise, no? Was that not one of the most entertaining sports events you've witnessed?

But I get your point. Maybe Texas in 09-10 instead

In football the 30 to 0 blowout of Navy, plus the win over a previous top ten Iowa state team as were were transitioning were notice servers.
The ND win plus the SCU win are musts.
The win over Bridgewater's Louisville team.
I would only include current P5 schools ,especially if they have a football tradition.
Tradition is huge in the B1G ,plus rivalries , so a auteurs game wouldn't 'to hurt.
Don 't laugh but edited highlights of the Fiesta Bowl. Showing how close that game was until the fourth qtr. could be included in a football montage. In that film the evolution of football from its first win over Yale to our 2014 win over a well known opponent .
In soccer the juju magic NC? game is classic.
Basketball pretty much could be its own network.
The 2011 Big east tourney could be edited into one two hour segment.
