First off, bless the poor soul who has been commanded by their antiquated overlords to actually run this account during games... It's just sad.

The account is just another terrible representation of the program. Whoever is in charge of the school's digital media has zero clue how this platform works. They have 82K followers and can barely scratch together a single retweet.

The team Twitter account is the least of our worries, but it's just another poor product from the school and the program. It wouldn't take $11M to fix this issue, either. Rant over.

I've gone on this rant a couple times recently. The social media presence has been pretty bad even before this season went down hill. Why do they not post highlights to their YouTube account with 10,000 followers anymore?

What happened to the Emily Noonan's/Erica Wachter's of the world that went behind the scenes and interviewed MBB/WBB/FB coaches and players and had their own little shows that helped everyone get to know everyone off the court a little more.

It feels like the marketing behind the AD gave up even before MBB did. To paraphrase CV, it's disrespectful to our programs.

The uconnhuskies account has a better hold on how the platform works. They have had some historically great tweets over the years and recently including the ownage of Cuse a couple years back, the solar eclipse tweet of the Kemba shot and so on.

Even UconnWBB had the fun tweet earlier this year of Geno taunting the UCLA students.

But we wouldn't even really care about these things if MBB was just winning so this issue gets magnified. Let's just hope they get a good coach who can quickly turn this disaster around.

That might have more to do with the product and less to do with how the account is administered?

The Sacramento Kings have an incredibly engaging Twitter product, and they're horrendous. The account can be independent from the product, but our season surely doesn't help @UConnMBB's cause.

Fan interest in general is at an all time low. The Kings have been garbage for a while yet still have somewhat of a devoted core, UConn men's basketball has no such thing. Our diehard fans are now casual fans, and our casual fans don't even follow the team at all anymore.

Pro teams with longer histories are more likely to develop fanbases that remain engaged independent of performance. Much of UConn's fanbase, on the other hand, stemmed directly from their explosion into blue-blood territory and consists of people who don't want to spend their time on anything less.

Completely agree that UConn is and has been lacking in this area, however, what do you propose the official team twitter account tweet during games? Serious question. From what I've noticed from similar accounts, it appears to be pretty standard to simply post updates. I would imagine that the official twitter accounts of pro franchises have a little bit more leeway when it comes to creativity. Accounts that are directly affiliated with the school are going to have to abide by a different standard.

Its almost as if throwing an SID liferaft to a former beat guy who's a complete jerk to the non-traditional media who, for some reason, actually WANT to cover this program, who has absolutely no connection to social media, isn't a good idea?

On the men's side? Its a combo of having an SID who's hard to deal with, associate ADs who have been around since Hathaway who have no fresh ideas and a coach who puts up more walls around his team than the Soviets put in East Berlin.

Phil Chardis essentially wrote for the Boneyard when we had the magazine.

He could not have been nicer or more accommodating.

In-game? Less is more and silence is golden with the current state of the team. The stats/info they tweet in a robotic tone does nothing for the fanbase.

And whatever this is, is not great.

The problem is with the morans who can’t pass up an opportunity to post horribly negative comments every time the twitter or Facebook account posts anything. Yesterday they posted a picture of the PK80 uniforms and of course people responded with trashing the team and Ollie. Obviously that happens here but it’s different when it’s some intern or a kid on workstudy whose phone goes off every time some jabrony thinks the world needs to read about how bad of a coach Ollie is.

They need to step up their insta game too.

Next year, I want a goosebump-inducing hype video.
