I was at lunch with my father today and we were talking about the first Uconn game he took me to which was against Syracuse in the old New Haven Coliseum. I cannot remember the year but thought it had to be the late 70's. If anyone knows or remembers players from that game please post. Thank you

Late 70's would be post-Tony Hanson and pre-Corny Thompson. I remember Randy LaVigne, and maybe Bruce Kuczenski was around them as well. But it is just barely before my memory getting good enough.

80-81 I believe and we had Corny, Chuck, McKay, Duhon vs the Orange with Mart Head, Bouie and Louie show........big upset GREAT loud crowd, probably the biggest win in the Perno regime for sure!!! I was there top row with 8 guys, went to Malone's prior and finished the celebration at Toads that evening!! Good Husky memories there........:D

That was the Morris Mountian's greatest game as a Husky. He was a monster inside. Unfortunately after that performance, Chuck felt he had nothing more to prove as a center and decided to reinvent himself as a jump-shooting small forward. In that way he felt he could showcase his versitility and save his knees for the NBA.

Syracuse played UConn three times in New Haven while in the Big East. The first time was on 1/13/79 and UConn lost 74-60.

The second time was a 78-59 UConn win on 1/5/81. This must be the game you are talking about.

The third time was on 1/3/87 and UConn lost that one 88-71. Was that right after Phil Gamble and Uncle Cliffy were declared ineligible? Or did that happen later in January?

Gamble and Cliffy weren't declared ineligible until the start of the 2nd semester, a few weeks later.

1/5/81 is correct because I was at Toads on 12/31 for New Years and there again a couple nights later for the Huskies.......that's the only 2 times I went to Toads actually!! Great game.........I believe even Clay Johnson and Jim "Disco" Sullivan may have scored LOL

I was there, we somehow scored great tickets behind the cuse bench and then went home and watched the replay on ESPN that night.

Unfortunately it had to be the game in 79 because I remember us losing. Thanks for your help on this.
