The wind is messing around with the outfielders. Especially center and right.

A little power and the wind are a dangerous combo today.

Coe with 6 Ks…problem is the 3 homers he’s given up. Only one of which was truly helped by the wind. See pic for wind.

Bottom 5th, with 1 out and 2 runners on base, Broadhurst has an RBI single, 6-5 St. John's. With 2 out Malcom is intentionally walked to load the bases, but UConn gets no more runs this inning.

Ellisen comes in to pitch the top of the 6th,

Top 6th, Ellisen puts the first 2 batters on base with a hit by pitch and a walk. Ellisen comes out of the game, Quinn takes the mound.

After a sac bunt moves up the runners, an error by Broadhurst brings in 2 runs. 8-5 St. John's. After a 2 out walk that puts 2 runners on base, Quinn comes out of the game, Carrea takes the mound.

Gotta like Carrea. He looks confident.

Top 7th, St. John's with a 1 out 3 run homer off of Carrea. 11-5 St. John's. The next batter gets a single, and Carrea comes out of the game. Cinnella takes the mound.

After another single puts runners on the corners, a sac bunt brings in another run. 12-5 St. John's going to the bottom of the inning.

Top 8th, St. John's gets 2 runners in scoring position with no out. After a ground out for the 1st out, Cinnella comes out of the game. Sean Finn takes the mound.

A 1 out passed ball advances the runners and brings in a run, 13-7 St. John's. After a walk, the runner at 1B is thrown out trying to steal 2B, but the runner that was on 3B scores. 14-7 St. John's.

Top 9th, with 2 out and a runner at 2B (the runner had reached base a passed ball on a strikeout, and had advanced to 2B on a wild pitch), an RBI single brings in a run, 15-7 St. John's going to the bottom of the inning.

College baseball sure ain’t Gibson vs Koufax.
Not usually. Sometimes you’ll get 1-0 2-1 game but not much. The ballparks are smaller, play faster, (turf) and weather conditions don’t play into field conditions anymore. The bats are also a reason. What about any college sport is actually improving lol

Yes, the ugly “ping” is a big reason, along with a smaller strike zone, lower pitcher’s mound and the detested (in my opinion) DH.

Can’t agree more with the ping comment. I’ve hated that for some time now. I’m really surprised their still a part of the game. I’m ok with the DH in college but I’d have preferred it stayed in NL in MLB.

TOP HITTERS.

Red Storm:
– Garrett Scavelli, 2-for-4, 2HRs, 4RBI
Blake Mayberry, 3-for-6, 3 doubles
Jimmy Keenan, 2-for-4, HR, 2RBI
Luke Orbon, 1-for-4, HR, 3RBI

Huskies:
Korey Morton, 3-for-4, HR, RBI, 1BB
Matt Malcom, 2-for-4, HR, 2RBI
Luke Broadhurst, 2-for-5, triple

RECORDS:
– St. John’s, 23-6-1, 4-1 Big East
– Connecticut, 15-17, 3-2

– The Red Storm storms on.

In case you don’t recall, this is the same St. John’s team that opened the season with a 9-5 win over then-No. 2 Florida, giving notice that this was going to be a much different Johnnies team than the one that finished 28-25 overall and 8-12 in Big East play. They also pulled a win at Houston and also took two of three at Sam Houston. But other than that, they have played a lot of teams with really poor RPIs. Yet after today’s win they have moved up to No. 47 in the RPI, so there is still hope this team can stay in at-large consideration, regardless of what happens in Big East

– UConn is still within striking distance.

Don’t feel too bad for the Huskies, despite the loss today their RPI is still sitting a No. 67, which is pretty good for a team with a 15-17 record. Just goes to show you how strong their non-conference schedule was, which included a West Coast trip to California to play teams like Cal, UC Santa Barbara and UC Irvine. Granted, they really have to start piling up some wins as we go through the final month and a half of the season.
