So is this bad news for the conference opener on Thursday? Or are they putting in all available resources to get the field ready for USF.

>>Due to unplayable field conditions at J.O. Christian Field, the UConn baseball home opener against Boston College scheduled for tomorrow will now be played at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, Mass. The Huskies will remain the home team for the contest and first pitch will remain at 3 p.m.<<

>>The Huskies are 17-9 on the year and are coming off a series victory in their American Conference opener at Tulane. Boston College is 11-13 this season and coming off a three-game sweep of Duke in an ACC series. UConn is 63-53 all-time against BC in a series dating back to 1909.<<

Radio guys said the dirt portions of the field were cleared off as of last weekend so I would think the grass areas have to be close to ready assuming they've made any effort to clear it off manually and let the sun do the rest.

2 unearned runs in the 3rd give BC 3-1 lead. Unable to listen but it looks like Yahn made a throwing error trying to cut a runner down at the plate leading to the first unearned run. Then an additional run was allowed with 2 outs for the second unearned run.

BC's starting pitcher has a 6+ era and their staff era is almost 5.

UConn has struck out 6 times and been caught stealing once in 3 innings. Outside of a Siena homerun the offense has been non existent.

Zapata bounces back with a 1-2-3 inning of his own. I think it might be enough if the bats can put 5 on the board.

Or not...

Zapata's struggles thus far have been alarming (though today's runs are shared with Montgomerie). Looking quickly at his peripherals last year, a pretty major regression actually should have been expected. He only had 5 K/9 while issuing 5.1 BB/9. Really hard to sustain success with those numbers. He had a .180 BAA which is almost impossible to maintain when you're only striking out 5 per 9 innings.

That's not to say he can't turn it around, but it would be wise to test other potential options when the opportunity arises.

UConn tacks on 2 more in the 6th to cut it to 6-4 with 2 outs. Testani up in a big spot here...

Edit: And he cashes in with a 2 RBI double to make it 6-6! Say what you will about Testani's average and K rate, but he's made his hits count, he walks a good amount, is a great bunter, and plays good defense. He's been very solid this year.

Chris Jones reports on WHUS that Devin Over got good news on his MRI and should be available this weekend.

As an aside, it looks like they took away the error from Yahn so all of BC's runs are earned.

With the UConn bullpen short of two main relievers today with Ruotolo and Over not being available, Max Slade gets a look coming into a tie game, possibly an audition for future late inning work. However, Slade allows a run and loads the bases before getting out of the inning.

Yahn with a leadoff double in bottom of 8 and then they don't sacrifice him down to 3rd with Testani? Got to question that one.

Typical final two innings for Nico Darras. Gets behind on batters, allows a runner or two on, and then shuts the door with no scoring. But UConn wins 8-7.

A great win considering two of three top Husky relievers were not available.
