-> This is why Chris Winkel returned to UConn for a fifth year.
To help christen the Huskies’ beautiful new, on-campus ballpark with a 16-1 home record. To homer on the same day as his younger brother, Pat, four times, while playing a virtual leapfrog with him for the team lead in home runs.
To help UConn win a Big East regular-season title in its first year back in the league, as the Huskies won their last seven games and nine of their last 10 after outscoring Seton Hall 48-11 in a four-game sweep over the weekend.
And ultimately, to achieve even bigger team goals after that, starting with this week’s Big East tournament in Mason, Ohio.
“This is exactly, to a tee, what it was all about,” Chris Winkel said. “The team (accomplishments), more than anything. Off to a rough start, but then to come together, breaking this place (Elliot Ballpark) in was phenomenal, and kind of breaking it in the right way — that’s what it’s all about.” <-
