All the other schools in the Big East are trashing Herbst for not "committing" to the Big East while the fan boards of the schools that did "commit" are have a field day with reports that they might get a Big12 invite in the next couple of days.

Ms. Herbst is doing absolutely the best thing for UConn. But she was dealt a lousy hand at this poker game !!! Her position is honest and upfront which cannot be said of others.

You know, I can't help but feel that this is great from a media relations standpoint. UConn is front & center on all media platforms across the country. It's akin to last winter, as the hoops tournaments were going on. The media was marvelling at Kemba's heroics, the Women were methodically plodding their way through the field to another final four appearance, &, oh yeah, the football team had just appeared in its first BCS game ever. Then came the baseball team & its travels through the NCAA postseason. All of this media attention kind of deflects from the football team's rough start under Coach P.'s new regime.

In business transparency is sometimes the most important thing. And unfortunately, that is the case... This isn't athletics anymore, it's business.

Exactly. I've argued for years people hate politicians for lying. But people foster politician's lying because they don't want politicians to tell them what they need to hear but what they want to hear. People continually vote the lies, and then feel betrayed when those lies can't be enacted. We all know something has to be done that we may not like. But rather than accepting this we look for the fantasy and then hate when people don't deliver our irrational hopes. Herbst is absolutely refreshing. And she will get a lot of heat for it.
