From the article:

Of all the realignment maneuvers of the past five years, adding the Scarlet Knights is liking signing up for a lifetime case of poison ivy rash.

This has been an absolute debacle.

But, hey, these are merely the most recent reasons why Rutgers has become the laughingstock of college athletics. The school has basically been on a negative roll ever since the Big Ten made its terrible error of inviting in the Knights.

So this is the festering sore of an athletic department Jim Delany welcomed with open arms. He’s a Jersey guy, grew up in South Orange, and he’s been obsessed with gaining a Big Ten toehold in the New York market.

Only problem is, the only time the Big Ten’s New York-area school makes news is when it is embarrassing itself. Which, from nearly the day it accepted the infamous invitation, has been all the time.

The Big Ten appears to be stuck with the dumpster fire that is Rutgers for a long time to come.

Thus, more reasons for the Big Ten to add UConn. If the women win another title in women's bball and Michigan State wins no titles in this academic year, we'll end up 8th for the most championships in the Big Ten, with Michigan State being 9th. :D

Right now, we'd tied at 8th with Michigan State. Someone is going to freaking add us. The Big Ten now has many more reasons to add us to save face in the northeast. Penn State and Rutgers? Ouch.

"Rutgers is comically terrible at cheating" ?

I get the point and find it amusing. However, what about the people that are better at it?

Meanwhile, in Chapel Hill...

Rutgers is always gonna Rutgers.

It's like in the movie kingpin, where they talk about up being a Munson. When teams up you could say they committed a Rutgers.

Snookie being Snookie. As that mindless twit can't help herself in the debacle that is her real life, so it goes on the Banks of the Raritan. One is a microcosm of the other.

Butch are you referring to overall national titles by school? If so, we may be able to lean on Nancy Stevens and the Field Hockey team to deliver one this fall.

Also, not for nothing, but the women's soccer team is looking strong early on. Could make some noise in the college cup.

Cable Box U. They deliver ratings alright...but nobody said that it had to be watching their games. They draw a great share in NYC on Court TV.

I think RU imploding as expected is good for UConn. Cable Box U did its job: brought cable boxes to the B1G. Now they need competent and championship level content to air to those cable boxes. We finish off NYC and the northeast while delivering year round content that people will actually want to watch.

Had Cable Box U hit the ground running and hadn't imploded so easily and quickly, then the B1G may have felt content and held off further expansion. But we all know RU is going to , and that's when we come in to seal the deal.

What's interesting is that I remember when the first murmurs of the B1G wanting to go east came out well before RU and MD got the invite, part of the plan was to look at the Boston market too.

I don't know if that was just rumor and never in DeLaney's mind, but it does seem strange that he would want a Northeast footprint without a foothold in New England. Does UConn get him that? I don't know. I know most people from Mass would sooner die than adopt UConn as their team, but in and around the city of Boston itself there are a ton of UConn grads and strong support.

Or who knows, maybe RU goes the way of Temple in the Big East circa early 2000s.

If the B1G was just about sports, specifically football, it is possible that Rutgers would be pushed out the door. But, the B1G has always been about more than sports. Its location in the country's largest metro area, its status as a state flagship U along with AAU status, and Rutgers research dollars still make Rutgers a very good fit within the B1G.

Nor is the Big Ten going to be hesitant to expand. Think the SEC is going to slow down?

Manhattan is in the MAAC. At some point, it starts to matter if anyone is willing to actually watch you play.
I have to say that since RU went to the B1G they are getting more love locally. That wasn't always the case.
