any source?
I have nothing official and nothing will be official until they officially announce it. Anything is just heard from someone "close to the situation."

If true, terrific news imo. That makes a lot of sense for all the parties involved; Cincy and Louisville broker the peace for the football-first schools and UConn appeases the others. If all stay, a 16-team conference appears to have a lot greater chance for survival in the years ahead. If some leave, a 12 or 14-team conference is still more than viable. Given where we are, I like this. Hope it's true.

. Can't be sure until we see it on an ESPN ticker, but I RT this a few hours ago.

It was RT to me via Zach Braziller.

I'm not sure I'd consider Ville and Cincy part of the "old" Big East, but I agree with the sentiment.

Cincy, Ville, Pitt, Cuse, ND and us have been 6 of the top 8 programs in the conference over the last 7 years.

Yeah, I said "old" when I meant "former".

Wow. ACC basketball will be ridiculous if true
Seriously. If true, even a great team would probably not come out with a great record. Every team would just beat the crap out of eachother.

It would make it so much fun! Think about it UNC, Duke, NC State, Louisville, Syracuse, Florida State, Pitt all coming to the XL Center or Gampel now. Tons of top 5 teams and total craziness!!!

That leaves 17 teams in the new look ACC with the departure of Maryland. Who's leaving to make it 16 or who else is coming to make it 18?

I'm not sure your math is right. The ACC currently has 12 members. Maryland leaves. If UConn, Cincy and Ville join, together with Cuse and Pitt, that makes 16.

You can still schedule with 17 teams. Big East is doing it this year

It seems the Big 10 has contacted UNC and Virginia.. I guess they're expecting to lose more programs

Look I'd be glad not to be the last rat of this sinking ship but does else anyone (mildy) dislike going in as part of compromise package rather than on our own?

No. I don't care how it happens. I just want it to happen.

I love this if true. It'd be great to have so many old Big East teams in the ACC. Almost would feel at home.

Almost.

You forgot Notre Dame. Those bastards joined in every sport except football.

But it'd be nice to see these divsions in order to keep rivalries:

North: UConn, Syracuse, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Boston College, Louisville, Virginia Tech
South: Duke, UNC, NC State, Clemson, Wake Forest, Virginia, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami

That would make it easier for me to root for both my teams!

Does anyone else get the feeling that we're jumping from one sinking ship to another?

It's becoming apparent that the ACC is the next target of major-conference raiding. This might keep us afloat for a while, but it wouldn't surprise me to see us hoping to get out of the ACC in 5-6 years.
