Facey is not a Center either. He's roughly 6'9" and 180-190 lbs. He's a PF like Abu is. Neither player is classified as a Center in AAU, but PF, so why in competitive college basketball do you want them at Center?

You are correct but Ollie like's to play small line-ups at times. I can definitely see Facey and Abu playing the 5 under Ollie. Doesn't have to be a full 40 minutes with a small line-up.

No one knows Ollie's preferred line up because he was dealt with an undersized team last year. He only coached the team he was left with to the best of his abilities. He's obviously targeting a big rugged PF & another Shot Blocking Center. Ollie's been around the block long enough to know what makes a great team, that's why NBA players & recruits love him.

Well yes I agree again. We only have a one year sample to work with. But you made it seem like an impossibility based on your other post. I was trying to point that it is possible for the line-up, in which the other poster noted, to take form. That's all man.

The phrase "Team X is recruiting Player Y the hardest" needs to be banned.

It's a lazy, misleading statement that journalists use to create a headline.

I'm okay with this. Abu is much more of a post presence, while Black is the superior athlete. If Black goes to Florida, hopefully that pushes them out of the running for Abu (and maybe Goodluck) and he comes here. If Black commits to Indiana, Uconn leads for Devin Robinson.

I see us getting Abu or Robinson (I want Abu) at the 4, and I still would really like Chukwu at the 5.
at Pg, most people on the boneyard really want Perkins, I prefer Kaleb Joseph
Perkins seems a bit arrogant, and anyone who wants to go to Kentucky that badly has zero desire to get an education. I see a young Westbrook in Joseph, and he's localish. We can offer him a starting position, while he would most likely be a backup at cuse for a few years.

We are in a really good position with a lot of guys. That being said, the omnipotent pc fanboys are convinced they will get every top recruit on the eastern seaboard (and they might for all I know, which would be impressive for a program that hasn't danced in a decade). I think Ollie will be a superior recruiter to Calhoun, but who knows. Let's let the dominoes fall, and sit back and watch.

Good post but Black isn't a superior athlete to Abu in my opinion.

Ok, I'll cut you some slack then. ;) I just don't see either Facey or Abu at Center. It puts UConn at a disadvantage & doesn't develop them. Ollie is trying to develop them & their future is not there. That's my old man rant! LOL

I agree with you completely. If Facey or someone like Abu are playing C at UConn for more than a few minutes a game I would be in shock. Facey's 6'9" and Abu 6'8" that's not tall enough to play center at the level UConn needs and wants to play at.

Where did you see him "beg"? I didn't. I saw him say that he wanted a Kentucky offer. Newsflash for you, son, so does just about every kid Ollie is recruiting. In case you missed it, lots of guys want to play there.

You can delude yourself all you want into thinking that the kids that want to go to Kentucky are "different" than the guys Ollie wants at UConn, but you sound incredibly silly doing it.

Agreed. It gets tiresome listening to posters who think a kid wanting to go to Kentucky displays some sort of character flaw. I don't like the one and done rule, I don't like Calipari, and I don't like the Kentucky program in general, but to act like kids who go to Kentucky have a different mindset (i.e., become as good as you can and if the NBA comes up, jump at it) than a kid who comes to UConn is ridiculous.

you don't ask for an offer publicly to any school. of course everyone wants a kentucky offer. its the kids who mention kentucky in every interview even though they haven't offered or are barley interested in that player, like kentucky and perkins

I would be happy to see UCONN land any of these players. People worrying about if they are big enough for a position will take care of itself once they are here on campus.

Abu is "only" 6-8, but his wingspan is 7-1. Sure, he's not ideal for the 5, but I guarantee he'll spend a lot of minutes there no matter who he plays for.

I sure do hole it's us, btw.

Abu is listed at 230-235 pounds, so he is a heavyweight compared to most of our bigs. He also has springs in his legs, so he could give us minutes against certain 5's if needed, considering that Niels G. did so pretty darn well at the end of last season. It was not the situation you would want, but Brimah may well not be ready for UConn level of play and so it could be center by committee unless Phil Nolan claims the spot as his own. It seems to me that he is the only one who could do so as a full-time starter this year unless Amida or Facey are shockingly ready for prime time. Minutes are going to be at a premium this year and moving forward if we sign more of these elite level players.

The days of lumbering centers are over. If Abu commits him Facey and Nolan would all rotate at the 4/5. Most of Facey's playing time will come at the five this year. Deandre isn't going to be on the bench very much.

Yeah, I think the Calhoun years have brainwashed everybody into thinking centers have to be seven feet. We just won a national title with Alex Oriakhi at center who is 6'9 at most.

It's pretty simple Crack, the kid is "waiting for a Kentucky offer" as he stated. He has offers from some great schools including UConn. It is pretty clear to some fans who find it hard to understand why he would beg Kentucky to offer, why they don't like the fact he wouldn't just be happy listing the great schools who have offered rather than waiting. At least it is to most but not you and 99 04.........really not crazy at all. No one sounds more silly than you while you pretend not to understand who is actually delusional here!

Neither player is classified as a Center in AAU, but PF, so why in competitive college basketball do you want them at Center? They are PF's. Only if we played Iona & Baltimore Eastern Shore are they Centers. At least Nolan is close to 6'10" and Brimah is a legit 6'11" with a massive wingspan & crazy hops.
A legitimate (not program) 6'8" is plenty big enough to play the 5 in college against anyone as long as the player is strong and can jump.

Louisville will be playing Montrezl Harrell at C this year and he's about the same size and athletic profile as Abu, I don't see their fans complaining. Also, in regards to those who don't think Facey will play C, DeAndre is going to play at least 32 minutes a game this year, and it will be at the PF spot, where do you think Facey is going to see his minutes at? His minutes will have to come at C, in addition to whatever he can get at PF.

They're not complaining because Louisville has one of the best frontcourt's in the nation.

Deandre Daniels will be gone and there will be big minutes at the 4. Abu is the perfect Kevin Ollie 4, he can play all over the court, perimeter and inside. You don't want him playing back to the basket, or getting exhausted banging with the biggest guy on the other team. Let a defensive specialist take the 5, Abu shouldn't be playing there.

I swear I'll open up a thread like this one of these days and it will tell me one of these guys committed instead of a thread that just has me wishful thinking.
