Gadsden City boys upset No. 3 Hoover 64-63
HOOVER — The Gadsden City boys basketball team got its biggest win of the season Thursday night, knocking off Class 6A, No. 3 Hoover 64-63.
The Titans (15-9) took the lead for good early in the game, but had to hold off the Bucs in the fourth quarter for their fifth straight win. They did despite making just 10 of 22 free throws in the final quarter, but Tray Smothers and Tevin Wise combined to make 3 of 4 from the charity stripe inside the minute to secure the win.
Jeff Garrett led Gadsden City with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Rakim Lubin had 16 points, five rebounds and five assists. Chris Dudley went for 11 points and three assists, Wise had eight points and four steals, while Smothers added six points and three assists.
