Since it's finals week, and @mauconnfan encouraged some OT threads, here we go. The challenge is to come up with five bands (Bob Seger Silver Bullet Band or Bruce - E Street counts, James Taylor does not) from a given city (metro area), and see which location comes out on top. U.S. only. For Example:

Boston:
  • Boston
  • Aerosmith
  • The Cars
  • J. Geils Band
  • Pixies/Mighty Mighty Bosstones (pick one)
Athens GA:
  • REM
  • B52s
  • ??
Have at it. Expecting LA will do very well, interested to see what surprises there are.

Birmingham:

Black Sabbath
ELO
Judas Priest
Led Zeppelin
Moody Blues

;)

That's why I said U.S. only! International champion (and that may be it) can face off against the U.S. winner. Maybe do a final four.

San Francisco:

Grateful Dead
Sly & The Family Stone
Santana
Janis Joplin/Big Brother & The Holding Company
Jefferson Airplane

Those acts are all of a certain, um, "vintage," but they're all Hall of Famers.

SF's JV team would be pretty good, too. And this excludes Oakland/San Jose, etc.

I'll give it a shot:

Detroit:

Bob Seger
Ted Nugent
Alice Cooper
Grand Funk Railroad
(Struggling on the 5th, I'll go w Brownsville Station solely for "Smokin in the Boysroom")

I'd replace Blondie with Simon & Garfunkel or Velvet Underground if S&G aren't a "band". But that's just personal preference.

Los Angeles:
1. Van Halen
2. Guns n' Roses
3. The Doors
4. Motley Crue
5a. RHCP
5b. Metallica
5c. NWA

You could easily do a Los Angeles 2nd Team:

•Red Hot Chili Peppers
•Eagles
•Beach Boys
•Los Lobos
•Weezer

Or....
•Jane's Addiction
•The Byrds

?

If you're talking about Bob, he's from Hibbing, Minnesota.

He's New York to me. I think it has to be where the person/band is based and associated with.
