That is so exciting for those kids. I remember someone made a list once of all the NC's that UCONN sports teams have won and it was very impressive. Congrats to the field hockey team - I believe it's our first NC since 1985.

The 2013 national championship in field hockey is the 16th NCAA title in UConn history and the 17th overall national championship. The other NCAA Championships are in: field hockey (1981, 1985), men's basketball (1999, 2004, 2011), women's basketball (1995, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2013) and men's soccer (1981, 2000). The 1948 UConn men's soccer team was named the national champions by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America before there was an NCAA tournament in men's soccer.

I also thought we had won NC's in women's polo (horse, not water)...

Shouldn't this title, combined with another inevitable championship from Stewie and company, give UConn the Capital One cup for women's sports? Two national titles could be hard to top by any other school.

I think you are correct re: the horses. In fact I thought that team repeated the next year. Surprised those championships are not mentioned.

It isn't a varsity sport. It's a club sport run by the UConn Ag School. They've won about a dozen between the two genders.

What's awesome is that this team will inevitably be honored at a UConn WBB home game at some point.

What do you call deja vu BEFORE it happens all over again?

Yowza. And I believe the final score was the same one as the halftime of the UConn-Stanford WCBB 2010 NC game. This one was even more exciting than the Huskies guys win over Duke in 1999.

Thanks for your clarification.

Perhaps UConn should be like I have heard other schools do (I really don't know) and count them all as national championships?
