All american from fall river mass spoke at my school today about his story and struggles with drugs. Very powerful. In 14 years of teaching I have never seen a speaker hold kids attention so long....

Saw the ESPN special on him last year in school. Possibly one of the best movies I've seen in school and out of school.

POWERFULL!!!!! Every program should show his story. From the top of the world to the bottom of hell and the will to save himself and now others.

amazing to see in person. Every kid gets his 100 percent attention. He speaks for 45-60 minutes; no notes. Awesome story. Great comeback

The ESPN special (IIRC 'Unguarded") was great. It should be required watching for every teenager in the country, if not the world. It clearly demonstrates how easily someone can throw away everything

Fall River Dreams by Providence writer Bill Reynolds is a good read about Herren and some MA history.

He talked about the book. They followed his team and like six of the kids end up addicts

A buddy of mine who teaches and coaches at a New England Prep School has become a good friend of his, he speaks extremely highly of Herren.

I'm getting a mixed message here. If he stayed clean, he probably would have to work for a living.

No, if he had stayed clean he would have made enough as a professional basketball player so that he would never have had to work another day in his life.

Hey he made a really really dark side of human nature into positive for kids. Sure would it be a better story if he played for 15 years and helped build AID's hospitals in Africa or organizing free universal elections in the middle east. But unlike many addicts he turned the corner and is giving back to kids

If he stayed clean he'd be playing golf living off the tens of millions parked in his bank account.

Boston College introduced him to cocaine. All downhill after after that.
