When Ruth was hitting HRs they were lucky if they used 2-3 balls during a game. Imagine hitting brown balls late in games. Hell I can, because we did it growing up it’s not easy. They always saved that one Pearl for late innings in case it was getting dark. Now they use new pearls about 100-200 a game. Dead ball era versus now makes a difference too!
