Maybe it's the first step in eventually having conferences move to a football only conference model and regional everything else conferences. So if the NCAA approves this football only conference, wouldn't that open a lot of opportunities for us?

-> The schools that have signed on to join the league are WAC football members Stephen F. Austin, Abilene Christian, Utah Tech, Southern Utah and Tarleton State and Atlantic Sun football members Austin Peay, Eastern Kentucky, Central Arkansas and North Alabama.
UT Rio Grande Valley, which recently announced it is starting a program, is also expected to join in 2025 in that program's first season as the league's 10th member. <-
It’ll help w/ UConn scheduling options… LOL.
This is beyond ridiculous. Most of these schools have names no one knows, let alone knowing who the mascots are. We don’t need more FBS schools - we need less.
I agree… the context is that he’s been vocal about that.I am highly confident the "It's happening" from the AD isn't about UConn joining that mismatch of teams.
It's the concept of football only conferences, one of which could include UConn.
AD Dave back in July:
“The better question for everyone in college athletics,” Benedict said, “is why do we continue to allow football to determine how every other sport competes within a conference and/or geographics. It doesn’t make sense to me that there is not a viable way to separate them. Because football is unique, different in the way it travels than all the other sports.”

Not interested.

Potentially. A conference consisting ofSo if the NCAA approves this football only conference, wouldn't that open a lot of opportunities for us?
That would be good. Could play FCS and 4 P5 H/Hs.The opportunity for a football only conference involving UConn, UMass, Delaware, Army, and a few others probably got better no? Ideal number would be about 8 members. 7 conference games gives you 5 OOC games to work with.
Hard no. This pales vs being Indy.Potentially. A conference consisting of
UConn
UMass
Army
Navy
Temple (A-10 could invite)
USF (Southern could invite)
ECU (Southern could invite)
Memphis (BE could invite)
would be interesting. There would be issues:
Finding Olympic sports homes for the last four
Getting CFP money
Getting a TV contract around 7 milllion per year
Getting permission for a football-only conference
CFP tie-in.Hard no. This pales vs being Indy.
Why would any of these schools form a valueless confernce instead of earning their own money. A preferred scheduling relationship if all these schools go independent, sure but a formal conference? Not a chance.
Not to mention, scheduling may get tougher as conferences get bigger and independents shrink.CFP tie-in.
AD Dave has earned so much UConn Equity he can do whatever he wants, and I'm sure he has a reason. Why the @5#^!5!#$^#$% did AD Dave tweet about this?

How would you pry them out of a P5 league with payouts close to 10 times more than they would get in this new, non power 5 league? If you can pry Orange,BC,Pitts,West Virginia high back along with 3 others you have something. I am sure the BE would take the bball schools back. But want it to be BE bball and football completely separate. There time is going to be up in the Acc soon anyway.
