"The NCAA Committee on Infractions has suspended Syracuse men's basketball coach Jim Boeheim for nine games, vacated wins in which ineligible players competed and reduced by three the number of men's basketball scholarships for four years because of violations..."

Losing three scholarships (or 12, however you view it) is the biggest penalty. It would have been nice for an additional year of post season ban. The self-penalty in a year 'Cuse wouldn't otherwise qualify is like a tree falling in the woods.

I'm guessing that the "trickle-down" is going to hamper recruiting for Quentin Hillsman and the women's program as well. :(

So how many games will UNC have to vacate, and how long will Roy (and Sylvia?) be suspended?

Do you think the NCAA will really give UNC the pile of sanctions they deserve? That would be 5 times what 'Cuse got.

Hopefully the release of Willingham's Cheated book next week (well timed for March Madness) will at least reignite some media buzz. Better yet, combined with the Syracuse sanctions, it could make the UNC situation impossible for the talking heads to ignore during the tourney.

Mind boggling how SyracuseFan forum handles this. SF has supposedly taken anything that mentions the scandal and pushed it to some newly set up and mysterious "NCAA" board. The mods' message says this action has been taken so that the basketball board can remain focused on this season (what little of it remains) and not because it wants to pretend that the scandal isn't blowing up all over Syracuse basketball. And there is no link to this mysterious board in the mods' message, nor is there a link to it in the Forums menu, nor does a search turn up any info about it. Just typical Cuse.

But yes, nice how the start of the violations was allowed by the NCAA to officially start one month after Syracuse won its 2003 NC. College athletics just seems like a giant slimefest these days, especially in the ACC.
