I figured it was about time to start a post acknowledging the Sultan of Swat. Lobo is the all time shot blocker at UCONN BUT Kiah is moving on up the list. At the start of the season:
  1. Lobo - 396
  2. Wolters - 370
  3. Charles - 304
  4. Dolson - 254
  5. Moore - 204
  6. Stewie - 184
  7. Stokes 178
So far this season Kiah has swatted 101 blocks (Stewie has 44). So stewie is up in 5th place with 228, but Stokes has passed Dolson and is getting ready to pass Charles as she has 279.

She averages about 4.8 BPG so if UCONN has played 21 games AND gets 19 more, she'd add 91 more blocks ending her career at 370 - tied with Wolters for 2nd place.

She had 8 more blocks today against Temple. Just a pleasure to watch this young woman play and while I'd love to see her pass Lobo, I think it's more likely she may catch Wolters. Not too shabby Kiah!!! Go get em!!

Kiah will shatter Rebecca's single-season record.

Rebecca had 131 in 33 games in 1993-94.

Kiah has 101 in 21 games and is on pace for 187 in a 39-game season.

[QUOTE=" so if UCONN has played 21 games AND gets 19 more[/QUOTE]

If UConn plays in the NCAA final, it will be a 39 game season , not 40...you have to redo the math a bit. :)

5 more blocks for her against Cinci. Up to 284 career blocks...

Someone check my math but I believe Miss Stokes is currently 4th on the All Time career blocks list with 289 total (111) so far this season with 5 regular season games to go.

That is correct, 289 for 4th. Kiah will likely finish 3rd at around 351 at her current pace for a full 39 games this year, though she is still well on pace to shatter Lobo's single season mark of 131 as she is on pace for 167.

Picked up 7 more blocks today. That brings her up to 296 for her career. She should pass Tina Charles in the next few games, but it's unlikely she will catch Wolters...

Kiah has 118 this season. Only 13 to tie Rebecca's record. Maybe 2-3 more games.

For comparison, Brianna Turner now has 59 blocks, exactly half as many as Kiah.

Elizabeth Williams has 69.

Only 2 blocks today - up to 120 for the season and 298 for her career. Kerith mentioned that Kiah has really focused on defense and specifically blocks, and wants to impact the UCONN record books with her blocking prowess...

Officially, Kiah had 2 today, but I thought I saw 4. She caused some airballs and altered other shots.

I think I saw four as well. However, I am inclined to deduct 2 block for those 2 clangers she had. I also noticed that more then usual, when she went out to attempt a block near the 3line, the opponents seemed to make a high percentage today. Not her best day today, but I believe she will come through for the team when it counts.

It's a forgone conclusion that Kiah will pass Tina, as she's only six blocks away from Charles after this afternoon's game.

Passing the great Tina Charles is a nice feat!

Kiah is only 11 blocks away from tying Rebecca's single-season record. With up to 12 games left, she can surpass it by 20-40.

Kiah is synonymous with blocked shots. After she graduates (with her reported 4.0 GPA, btw), ill start posting things like "what a Kiah Stokes by Gabby!" next year.

Another 4 blocks today in only 15 minutes !
So nice to see Kiah reach another milestone. She now has the single season blocked shot record previously owned by Rebecca Lobo .

132 and counting...........310 / career

Now # 3 on Uconn's all time career shot block list. Congrats Kiah ! I think this has been mentioned but whats even more amazing is that she's done this in about half the minutes (playing time) of the two players currently ahead of her on the list (Walters and Lobo)

In who knows how many fewer minutes. She's really special.

And, she's had to accomplish this with teams adjusting their attack to avoid her. As Bschwartz noted a couple of weeks ago, Kiah's had to adjust to this by extending out towards the 3-point line, taking a few more risks w/regard to rebounding and low-post D positioning. Teams simply take fewer shots close to the basket when she's in the game (and, when they do, they often are "up n' unders", or, have the trajectory of a mortar shot). Shots from further out make Kiah stretch defensively, and make for longer, harder rebounds.

It's not often that a defensive player has that kind of impact on an offensive team. Certainly it happens - Griner comes to mind, and Stewie is starting to - but, it's not often. For Kiah to maintain her shot-blocking, even in the face of adjusting offenses, is impressive.

Funny thing is Stewart will probably pass her next year.

Stewart definitely will pass all three of them next year....So Stokes should savor this top 3 position now and hope she will keep the single season record for a long time.
