Yeah height isn't as much of an issue as weight and it looks like he is coming in at a good weight of about 190 lbs.

Trent Richardson was 5' 9" about 215 lbs which I think would be a good goal for Josh (I'm just talking measurables, not skill)

Marriners's best time of 6.43 seconds in the 55 meter dash is faster than Leray Smith's best time of 6.49 seconds. Smith has great 200 meter times, but last time I checked most football fields are less than 200 meters. 100 meters are also close with Smith having a best of 10.73 and Marriner running a 10.79. Good size and great speed. Nice pick up.

interesting stuff. thanks rock. i wasn't high on this kid a while back becuase we were after bigger fish it seemed but we struck out. i also wasn't in love with his size and hl tape. but several here saw good things and talked me into liking him as a prospect. hearing about his speed, his great senior year and that hes a great track ath now makes me feel good about him also with his other offers. are they great offers? no, but they are legit ones that matter.

could we say on paper considering we have no rb coach that this is actual progress at recruiting the position?!?! we really have gotten nothing but under radar kids at this position in our short hirstory. todman was the only real get with other big boy offers. hyp back then umass was fcs and navy wasn't heading to the big east and army was army...

13-marriner(temple//navy)
12-williams
11-delo, foxx
10-mccombs
09-hyp(army/maine/umass/navy)
08-todman(bc/ne/purdue)
07-frey(akron), wylie(ballst)
06-mcclain, davis(akron/temple/kan was he a fb not rb?)
05-brown(wisc), dixon(ill/uk/unc/temple)
04-
03-dorvil, law(usce/cuse)

now i ask, wtf happened in 2009 that we all of a sudden dove of a cliff rb wise? we were a run team back then under RE. so how did we manage to not do so well on the trail? dont get me wrong, im not ripping any of the players but not 1 other offer from 2010-12? RE's 2 last years at the position recruit wise are not exactly stellar and P didn't start off hot with williams. hopefully marriner is a comeback trend for us at the position. its hard to imagine how RE could land kids like lawrence and dixon years ago but as a school right now we are struggling at the position.

HfD, I agree about the fall-off and have no idea as to cause. But I hope we can get our RB recruiting to new heights. This is our first really good quality offensive recruiting class in quite some time, maybe ever, still some o-linemen needed but we've got quality coming in at the skill positions. If we can fix the o-line and show some dynamism on the field I think RB recruiting will pick up. I like Whitmer a lot, I think he'll be a good one, and either Cochran or Lagow will emerge to keep us going at QB for the next 5 years.

The coaches have a lot of positives to them ... if only GDL could install a simple but dynamic offensive system and practice it consistently, I think we'd have a ton of reasons to look to the future with excitement.

No offense meant (as he's Terry Caulley size), but when is UConn going to get an RB commit from a player in the 6' 2" 225 lb. range?

Dido that.We can't compete with the big boys.Smurfs r us.

With all due respect guys - I can give two hoots about the size of the back - I'm more concerned about the size, footspeed, and nastiness of the o-line he needs to run behind.

BTW - we did get a commit from a 6-2 230lb FB!

To me that was always the greatest mystery of the RE era. I can understand why we had a hard time getting good QBs and WRs, but we were averaging 2000 yards of running offense, how were we not a top destination for top RBs? Oh well, it's water under the bridge.

This offense desperately needs speed. Looks like Josh brings alot of it.

Can't believe people still nit pick about size of a rb. Crazy.

Welcome to UCONN Josh!!!

No. 6 Western Branch 63, Great Bridge 30
Josh Marriner, already South Hampton Roads' leading rusher, gained 417 yards on 20 carries to boost his season total to 1,670 yards through nine games.
Marriner left in the fourth quarter just 10 yards shy of setting the South Hampton Roads' single-game record. Norview's Wayne Bacon had 427 rushing yards in 1994.

Marriner, a senior who has committed to Connecticut, also jumped onto the area's single-season rushing list. He's eighth behind Princess Anne's Mike Majette (1,680 yards in 1995).
Marriner scored three TDs as the Bruins improved to 7-2.

417 yards
Congratulations to Western Branch's Josh Marriner, who ran for 417 yards Friday night as the No. 6 Bruins routed Great Bridge 63-30.
Marriner amassed the total on just 20 carries – that's almost 21 yards per carry. He also scored three touchdowns – on a 90-yard run, an 80-yard run and a 74-yard run.
He left the game in the fourth quarter just 10 yards shy of the South Hampton Roads record. Norview's Wayne Bacon had 427 rushing yards in 1994.

How #$K can someone possibly average 20 yards per carry with more than two or three carries?

The kid brings the lunch pail to work everyday. He carries the rock hard. He bounces off tacklers and picks up yards on every run. Cant wait to see him as the primary ball carrier. He seems like a beast.
