Let's start putting "Stars" on Jim Calhoun way for the huskies of honor. Be nice for recruits to walk across those names on their way into the building. Gets guys back on campus.

I love this idea. This would be a great look. Recruits would take notice.

Maybe they can put a pic of Christen Laettner's face under Rod Sellers star(that actually could be shaped like Rod's foot :D).

Did Nolan make huge strides this off-season that you know about?

He wouldn't have had to in order to qualify that statement. We need interior D and rebounding out of the 5. I love Tyler but he just doesn't have the athleticism to do that effectively. Guards and Bigs both attacked at Olander without fear. Nolan was already eclipsing Olander last season in this regard.

At least he's one of the few to put our back court over LVille

Yeah, while not a knock on Louisville at all, that's an implicitly critical comment from Rothstein (and I mean critical in the "neutral" sense).

If you think olander deserves consideration to start you must have not seen his play for the past two years. He should be playing 5-10 mpg this year.

Tyler actually started the downward spiral in 2011-12 by playing too well in the easy games. He bumped AO out of the lineup, which was followed by AO sulking, which was followed by older Olander dunking on younger Olander and driving younger Olander to drink, which was followed by neither of them playing well, which was followed by Drummond trying to be the man down low before he was ready, which was followed by Roscoe being squeezed out of the lineup and losing confidence, which was followed by a constant three-guard lineup with Drummond at the five and revolving doors of unhappy 4s.

Yep. That Fairfield game was the beginning of the end for TO! Older brother vs. younger brother got big hype and the guy in Fairfield took it to the UConn guy in front of friends and family.

@JonRothstein: Could see Terrence Samuel being used in a defensive specialist type role for UConn in reserve. Really guards. Poor man's Royal Ivey.

@JonRothstein: UConn will go with a three-headed monster at the 5. Tyler Olander, Phil Nolan, and Amida Brimah. Trio needs to combine for 10 and 10.

I think the three of them hit those numbers easily. Probably closer to 10pts and 12 boards.

So...are you disagreeing with the fact he's been underwhelming since his role expand post freshman year? Or is this just a timeline of his average play? I don't think there was ever a downward spiral he had two decent games vs coppin state and Maine, nothing to consider a peak.

Gampel looks pretty beat; haven't been inside it in years, but can't imagine its too awe inspiring. Seems crazy that it's 20+ years old now.

HotSportsTake: next year, Rothstein says that there's so much Sam Cassell in Sam Cassell Jr., the universe implodes in on itself as a result of paradox resulting from Rothstein making a logical player projection.

I'm saying he was clearly one of our five best players in November/December. He was looking like a great passer out of the high post, he was knocking down shots, he was giving us good spacing. He took AO's minutes on merit. I recall him getting put in his place by a more physical Florida State team, and thinking that was it for the Tyler experiment, but then he turned around and dominated Arkansas right after, which was when I thought he might be our permanent four-man.

It was probably just coincidence that he was never the same guy after his brother dunked on him - probably more the schedule got tougher and he regressed to the mean.

But if the same Tyler we saw last year started the year that way in 2011-12, he wouldn't have taken minutes from Alex/Roscoe, and chemistry might have been different. Maybe not - odds are Alex would have found something to sulk about, and Roscoe would have still wanted to play the three, but they'd at least have gotten more consistent minutes.

The problem with modern buildings is they become dated and ugly quick. If it was built to look more traditional using more wood and a colonial facade it would have aged better.

Why?
Ha, as I'm sure you've seen from other posters, Rothstein is effusive in praise for all things college basketball. I don't think he has ever met a player that he doesn't like. After all, he was so impressed with Olander in one practice that he compared him to Troy Murphy. It's tough to take anything he says seriously.

No offense to Boat et al. but it doesn't take much effort for one of the top defensive guards in the AAC (Mr. Terrence Samuel aka SubMachine Sam) to put Boatie right smoothly in his back pocket.

Samuel is a defensive monster man ready to strip/claw your eyes out while leaving the "O" ffensive (Ricky Majerus) player for dead (just like using a Precision DSR 50 Sniper Rifle) all the while smiling with calm cool confidence. The funny thing is he just does it so effortlessly similar to a Sammy the Bull Gravano cap in Paulie Castellano's head outside of Spark Steak House on December 16, 1985! A ruthless assassin ready to take all the booty to his UConn family to rejoice and feast with.

Ladies and Gentlemen...Boys and Girls....Puppies and Kittens....Dawgs and Cats...."Fishy's :) and tadpoles.................Listen Up

We are NOT talking water balloons here folks per fluedy and mauconn!!!!!!!!!!!! We are talking what will be the best defensive guard to ever don the Blue and White!! A true legend in the making!!! A defensive player you will be talking to your grandchildren about and reciting the definition of larceny to them because that is the word that comes to mind when articulating the memories of the one and only Terrence Samuel.

Now let's all get on the Terrence Samuel LOVE TRAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sing IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ALL Together!!!!!!!

Have you seen the inside lately? Unless they made repairs to the ceiling since last season, many of the tiles are deteriorating. The building needs a facelift badly.

It will be T. Samuel who will lock down Andrew Harrison IF Kentucky and UConn knock heads at 1 Legends Way in Dallas, TX. Mauconn & Co. will be flying first class into AT & T Stadium to watch Squid Vs. Ollie Round 1. After the game Fluedy, Mauconn and Burnsbro bring Fishy over to Shady Trail and partake of the world famous Baby Dolls Club.

Gurleyman pays for the VIP room!

Big Red joins the group and does the U-C-O-N-N chant with 5 baby Dollz draped on his arm while smoking a victory cigar lit by the hottest girl named Valencia.
