From one of the articles on tonight's matchup:
Since Geno Auriemma arrived in Storrs, only one four-year player at the school has failed to reach a Final Four. Kris Lamb, who played from 1986 to 1990 made it as a graduate-assistant coach for the Huskies in 1991. Lamb was an assistant coach for Duquesne the only other time the Huskies played the Dukes, an 88-60 UConn win in 1995.

That's a pretty unbelievable stat. How about that for a talking point on the recruiting trail?

That's quite a remarkable factoid. If playing in a final four is a serious goal of a recruit, this point must be seriously considered. I don't believe any other active coach can make that statement.
Another talking point is something that was mentioned on one of the pre-game shows this past weekend. Geno has more NCAA women's college basketball championships than ALL of the currently active coaches combined.

Considering that the NCAA started sponsorship in 1982 and between Pat and Geno they have accounted for 18 titles that only leaves 16 for other coaches. The first five titles were won by coaches who have long been retired, and the seventh was won by Barmore also long retired, (6 and 8 being won by Pat.) That means 1990 with Tara winning is the first active coaching win and if no other winner had retired Geno and the field would be tied at 10 apiece. Marsha Sharp and Carolyn Peck both won and have retired so it is ten-eight.
Geno - 10
Tara - 2
Kim - 2
Sylvia - 1
Muffet - 1
Brenda - 1
Gary - 1
Retired:
Pat - 8
Linda Sharp - 2
Sonja Hogg - 1
Marianne Stanley - 1
Jody Conradt - 1
Leon Barmore - 1
Marsha Sharp - 1
Carolyn Peck - 1

So Pat is actually tied with all other retired coaches combined and with all other active coaches combined not named Geno.
