That is such a good idea. Its about time. The winter break would be the perfect opportunity to schedule a game there.

Horrible idea. I just hope they are getting a ton of dough for their soul.

Why is this a horrible idea? Its 37 min from Storrs to Hartford. It's 47 min from Storrs to Mohegan. Mohegan pulls in a lot of people between New York and Boston who might not be UConn fans but willing to catch a college basketball game they can walk to from their hotel room or use comps for tickets. Its a great way to on board new fans IMO.

There is no reason to go to Mohegan Sun instead of Webster Bank Arena. I mean, no reason.

If you play at Webster Bank Arena:
1. You're closer to NYC
2. You're closer to Fairfield County alums
3. You're closer to rich Fairfield County donors
4. You're playing in an area of the state where you have admitted you are underexposed.
5. Mass transit! You can do a sponsorship deal where you get NYC alums to ride the Metro-North up from Grand Central to the game. The arena is a couple of blocks away.

At Mohegan Sun Arena, you are capturing the vital Montville and Keno crowds.

as a Fairfield County resident I would much rather see them jump onboard the Webster Bank Arena idea

Not even the gigantic entertainment/hospitality destination attached to the arena? Or say the fact that Webster Bank Arena is in Bridgeport?

Doesn't say they won't do both when all is said and done... new XL contact must have carve out for a few games.

Both would be ideal....any excuse to get to the casino is cool with me but getting some winter break games in Bridgeport would be awesome

As a New Haven resident, meh. Though if it opens the possibility of Bridgeport, I could be into that. Minus all the stabbing. Though as an aforementioned New Haven resident, I'm mostly used to it.

Playing games in Fairfield County will encourage fans who ordinarily wouldn't attend live games in Hartford or Storrs.
That's how it worked for my friends and I back in the early 80's
We started going to UConn games in New Haven.
When UConn returned to Hartford we went with them.
Until Huskiemania and redicules pricing and poor seating forced us out after 1989.
When you have two kids in college you have to make choices.

Seeing live games is addictive.

Doesn't Webster Bank Arena host all Fairfield games? That could be a potential conflict between the parties with dates and such.

Wonder aloud whether this has anything to do with proposed XL Renovations and/or Gampel ceiling tile repairs?

Not a fan of the casino for a number of reasons, but I imagine this is part of what Manuel referred to as finding other ways to make up for the money we're losing from being in a real conference.

Why would they play there. XL offers far more seating, and Gampel about the same. Unless the tribe is offering a ton of cash, it's an absurd idea. Plus it is a long ride to Montville from any where, but the New London area. It would be better to throw a game or two in Bridgeport to try and raise some Fairfield county interest (i.e. money).

This is quite an interesting development....I definitely like the idea of them playing 1 game at Mohegan over Christmass break.

Also as a resident of Fairfield County it would be great to see the men play a game in Bridgeport...i just don't see that ever happening.

Like anything there are pros and cons.
I like the idea overall and agree with those who feel it should be expanded to Fairfield County as well.

1)Exposure is critical for fan development. This increases exposure. I never felt UConn was anything but a state university and currently a leading regional public university, but there are people who take a more parochial viewpoint of the school because of where it is situated and where athletic events are held. It certainly won't be a negative for recruiting.
2)It allows for kinks to be worked out for the women's bb tournament and could encourage the site for a future men's tournament.
3) But most of all it addresses HFD's demands that the university start getting involved in the public's eye. The critical thing will be to not let the ball drop. They must make sure the games are run in a manner that the vast majority of people will want to see them again in that venue. They need to go "all in" with the planning and arrangements. And by vast majority I don't mean Boneyarders, but the casual fan.
