Interesting how he talks about Mo needing 18 months to essentially take control: is it going to be roughly the same timeline for Crystal?

So how many times in the last couple of months has Geno had to answer the silliness about whether CD drinks Diet Coke or ice tea, and keeps his cool and answers as if it were the first time asked?

It's going to take some time for Crystal Dangerfield. Look how great Mo is and how long it took her. Luckily Crystal Dangerfield will get to play along with Kia like Mo had Bria when she came in.

He also specifically mentioned Bria and CD in relation to being able to allow Moriah the time to mature. I don't think you can draw any inference from that 18 months. It is not dissimilar to the freedom he has had with players like Maya and DT not starting games their freshman year as opposed to CD, Renee, and Bria being needed immediately as starters because of holes in the line-up when they arrived.

I think there is a chance Dangerfield will be more ready as a freshman than Moriah, because she has been playing with better HS teammates in a more rigorous HS environment than Moriah did. But really it comes down to baptism by fire if the team needs a player to start as a freshman or a gentler transition if the team already has good options at the position.

I'm hoping you are correct. She would make us better if she could slide right into Mo's spot. Not sure if Saniya will be healthy enough, and would prefer Kia at the 2 spot.

I always thought the "coming out" moment for Moriah was during the Baylor game her sophomore season in 2014. During a timeout Auriemma was cautioning Jefferson with regard to her play against their great point guard, Odyssey Sims - he had Moriah on a short leash, concerned about getting the ball turned over if she was too reckless or aggressive. She fired back at him (paraphrasing) "I got this, Coach .... if I see an opening, I'm taking it!". He noted after the game that he wasn't going to argue with her - when a player feels that confident, no reason to hold them back. That story always stayed with me.

You can tell when the attending writers run out of intelligent or RELEVANT questions, when they start asking "stupid" questions like that. Its no wonder why so many coaches and professional athletes dislike Q&A with the media. Some of them don't ask questions that are germane to the setting. Sometimes it seems like they don't think of what they're going to ask BEFORE the session begins.

One of the best interviewers I've had the pleasure of listening to for most of my life is long time Dodger announcer Vin Scully. Back in the day when he did pre-game interviews of home and visiting players, he never asked stupid questions, or questions that put the player on the spot. It was a 3 minute interview, and he asked questions that he felt the fans would ask if they had the chance. He always made the person he was talking to comfortable, and at ease. This was especially true when he interviewed a player that didn't speak English too well.

Even players that did not do interviews very often (Barry Bonds, Eddie Murray) would talk to Vinnie, because he had the reputation of being a professional, and would not put you in an uncomfortable position, or asked questions that would embarrass them. What kind of soft drink CD drinks is of no consequence here. She's not the focal point, and she not playing in the game. I think some of the journalists attempts at being "cute", can get a little boorish.

To me, the all time most ignorant and mindless question ever asked that I know of, was when a reporter asked the Washington Redskins quarterback Doug Williams the following at media day during Super Bowl week: "So Doug, how long have you been a black quarter back?". They should have take that guy's press pass away right then, and escorted him out.

Or like the journalist that asked a stupid question of Brice Harper last year, and Harper responded with the now famous response "that's a clown question bro". Most writers do ask intelligent questions, and do think before they speak.

I thought her coming out moment was in the second half of the title game against Louisville in 2013. She was shaky when she was subbed in the first half, I think she quickly turned it over and fouled and was yanked, but when she came back in during the second half, she seemed much more composed and showed glimpses of what was to come.

A high five to ya Chuck. I too thought Moriah's coming out was during that Baylor game. She played her heart out, and left everything on the floor. I won't say she was the reason UConn won, but I will say without her, they would have lost.

Mulkey had no answer for her. If I recall, UConn won that game by 11 points. THATS when she became my favorite UConn player, and remains so to this day.
