For those who get hung up on recruit rankings

Someone in another thread mentioned Aaliyah wasn’t highly ranked coming out of high school and it made me wonder what she was ranked. She was #23. Check out this HoopGurlz evaluation. How accurate is this?

It seems to me that the foreign players are often under valued in the rankings. With regard to AE she had the body type of a pro the day she stepped onto the campus and obviously put in the work to improve her skillset. I think she will be a great pro especially if she ends up on a team with a true post player that allows her to play her natural position.

As it panned out, Aaliyah was under-ranked, but 97 is a very high scouting grade.

It seems to me that the foreign players are often under valued in the rankings.

With exception of Canada, foreign players are not in our ranking systems at all. Geno has to go himself to Croatia to find kids who never foul.

Hard to say how accurate since Olson thought he was grading a Wing. She still doesn’t have the ballhandling or passing skills of a Wing since she’s never played it. She’s a 4/PF. And it’s interesting that he went from her being “ultra athletic with off the charts potential” in 2018 to “athletic with versatility” in 2019. After one season he wasn’t as impressed. Part of why I don’t take these rankings too seriously.

Hard to say how accurate since Olson thought he was grading a Wing. She still doesn’t have the ballhandling or passing skills of a Wing since she’s never played it. She’s a 4/PF. And it’s interesting that he went from her being “ultra athletic with off the charts potential” in 2018 to “athletic with versatility” in 2019. After one season he wasn’t as impressed. Part of why I don’t take these rankings too seriously.

Yet, she was considered the third best wing in her class. People need to take the assessments with a grain of salt

Other than her ball handling, I'd say those reports on her attributes were pretty accurate......
