Good for Caron. 2 year deal with a player option after the 1st.

Looks like they signed Seth Curry, too.

In other NBA news, WTF is with Cleveland, re Christmas. Was surprised when they traded for his draft rights, and now they traded him for a 2nd round pick in 2019. Sure looks like they didn't like what they saw in summer league. But LA immediately signed him to a 4 year deal, so somebody saw something of value.

The Kings are embracing him with open arms.

Get to Know: Caron Butler
Find out how the 14th-year veteran’s outside touch and revered toughness will have a strong impact on and off the court.
Nicknamed “Tuff Juice” for his gritty, passionate and aggressive style of play, Caron Butler – a two-time All-Star who holds career averages of 14.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game – is one of Sacramento's three free-agent signees who’s not only a proven contributor on numerous postseason contenders, but an esteemed NBA champion.

SI Analysis:
"Distressing as it might sound, Butler may be one of the better long-range shooting options on Sacramento’s roster. Most conventionally constructed Kings lineups will lack for beyond-the-arc balance; it’s hard enough to find room to operate with DeMarcus Cousins working alongside another traditional big and especially so when the starting point guard is a non-threat at any range. Butler addresses that specific deficit as a catch-and-shoot option in a way that makes his signing at the minimum (and use of a roster spot) fairly defensible, if unspectacular. At worst, it’s nice to have another adult in what looks to be a challenging locker room." — Rob Mahoney

While I'm thrilled to see Caron and Rudy playing together in Sacramento... what in the world is going on over there in the front office?
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-b...ith-analytics-guru-dean-oliver-005317187.html

In addition to the DeMarcus Cousins/George Karl saga and the all-but-guaranteed Rondo saga, we have this:

"High profile former ESPN analytics guru, Dean Oliver who was hand picked by owner Vivek Ranadive, as Director of Player Personnel, and Head of Analytics a season ago, and who has multiple years left on his contract with the Kings - was told by new Kings VP Vlade Divac not to attend NBA Summer League.Oliver was in attendance anyway and was seen with King coaches. Oliver was not permitted to be there in his official capacity with the team.Divac has told confidants that he is strongly opposed to the use of analytics in evaluating players, and has halted all communication with Oliver..."

That's ironic, because if the NBA had looked at PER and WS back in the 90s, Divac would have likely made a couple more all-star teams.

Just another tick in the 'former good/great players don't necessarilly make good coaches or execs' box. While I sometimes think stats geeks rely too heavily on analytics (coming from a mathematics/stats major), Divac's position is ludicrous.

Add to the fact that the owner doesn't always listen to his basketball people RE big decisions. Whether it was correct or not, his people advised for the Kings to NOT sign Karl. He did anyway.

Can't produce with that level of dysfunction.
