With $40 million less in state funds than they say is needed for next fall, UConn leaders brought in their heaviest hitter Tuesday as part of the annual "Husky Day" celebration at the state Capitol.
Fresh off his 10th national championship, women's basketball coach Geno Auriemma didn't disappoint.
Auriemma said he realizes there are other worthy programs with serious budget deficits. "We're not telling you to vote no for them. We're asking you to vote yes for UConn," he said.
Auriemma urged legislators not to stop their investment in the university. "We've been through the darkest times …" he said. "Don't wake us up from this dream. Don't stop our momentum because we are on the edge of something unbelievable."
