Hurdler Keni Harrison just broke the 100m high hurdle world record. Unfortunately, she wasn't in the top 3 at the trials.
I get it, but think using a larger body of work might help alleviate leaving the best people off the team.If anyone has a better system, please step forward. Most track and field events and especially in the 100 meter hurdles, are so closely contested in the U. S. that the only way to select a team is through competition. The top seven times in this event this year are by Americans. Harrison did not look good in any of her races at the trials. She had the sixth best time going into the final and finished sixth in the final. The woman ranked #1 in the world the last two years didn't even make the final.
Being a world record holder is one thing, being the Olympic champion is another. Hopefully, in four years, she will be ready to be both.
