I'm very much looking forward to seeing her back on the court again - but we really need to STOP using that "generational talent" phrase. It just doesn't apply in nearly all cases. Absolutely great players yes but that's says enough.
Agreed. When 3 or 4 players have been declared generational over a several year period, it really loses its meaning.

JuJu, Hannah and MiLaysia have all been called “generational “ this year. Three generations in one year!

I would scrap the Word and only apply it to players who have been in the W for 5 years or more.
There you go, 3 in one class. Plus Paige and Caitlin a few years ahead of them. And Azzi sandwiched in between (although she might've lost that moniker since leaving high school).

Boston was a “generational Big.” How old is Griner?

Duke's 2024-25 roster is now online. The only defection was loosing our Director of Scouting and Analytics Ted Kim. He returned to his native South Korea to become an assistant coach.

I've seen a lot of this type of questioning about what "generational" means. I wonder if what is happening is about there being a lot more players arriving in college with the skills of past players who actually were unique in their abilities. The bar has been raised and we haven't adjusted yet. Maybe it explains the increase in popularity of wcbb.

How can this be the ACC off-season thread?? The Lacrosse season has yet to conclude, with the NCAAT championship game scheduled for tomorrow.......

They can't be generational players for their respective programs?

@triaddukefan your Devils hosed in softball seeding and now in baseball seeding. How they weren’t a host over ECU is head scratching. Also figured they’d be heading to Greenville if not hosting, instead all the way out to Norman while Wake gets ECU.

Ray Tanner earns a return to his homeland and the friendly confines of Doak Field.

Former Pack player Tommy White comes to Chapel Hill, he’ll be a Pack favorite again for 1 weekend only before returning to Benedict Arnold status.

ACC well represented as is the state of NC.

Generational=talented these days.

Last season there were a lot of talented players. CC is generational. We're not getting anyone like her for a while.

Generational should apply to people who basically changed the NCAA or did something outstanding that would be hard to break. CC broke the scoring record and was a near triple double monster every game.

PB is the only freshman to ever win POTY. Even talents before her like Parker, Stewart, Wilson, Plum, they never won it freshman year. I would kind of consider that generational because the only 3 other people to ever win POTY as a freshman in CBB history are NBA stars now (Zion, AD, and KD). That and she’s the most efficient guard in the NCAA. But who knows, someone could break that next year. I’d still consider her a generational talent though.
We won’t see someone average 20/8/9 (ish) and shooting from the logo and we likely won’t see a guard shoot 50% from the floor and win POTY as a freshman for a while.

This years' class made a statement for sure. But it is WAY too early to call any of them generational. If next years' class comes in and dominates, are we gonna call all of them generational as well?

So,

Are you saying that Hannah is not generational?
I think she'll be generational once she has another year. We've seen seemingly elite players tank before (Hailey Van Lith being a big one). It's too quick to determine from just one year. I think she's gonna eventually win a DPOY and a lot of ACC accolades that will solidify her as a generational player.
