Throwing out the first pitch at the first game she went to is unusual and a nice gesture by the Nats. And as far as first pitches go it was above 75th percentile of how well it went. It's amazing how many really flub it, even among non-baseball player athletes.

Too bad there were hardly any fans there to see AE's pitch. Much better throw than most 1st pitches.

The catcher is actually a pitcher named Matt Barnes - this guy
So cool to see a UConn alum catching her pitch. :)
Yes and just to add for those that may not attend a baseball game. The Uconn bullpen is named after him along with a mural of him on the back wall. Justified by his play on the field and financial contribution to the facilities.

There were 24000 there, which isn't bad for day game on a weekday in DC. Of course, probably many fewer for the first pitch, as they tend to straggle in.

We'll see how well marketed Aaliyah is. A couple of years ago you couldn't go anywhere without seeing Elena Delle Donne. The Mystics are pretty popular. Get Edwards and Dolson a little exposure, people will love them. The first pitch at a Nats game is a good start, even if there weren't many in the crowd.
