“I didn’t believe it at first,” Washington said this week. “I got in the car, told my mom I got an offer from UConn, and she said, ‘Boy, stop playing.’ ”

“It was really surreal,” Washington continued. “That’s what we dream about coming from New Haven. Kids like us don't really do things like that, so especially me as a freshman and me getting an offer, it woke me up like, ‘Yeah, I could do this for real.’ ” <-
