I think they may have been looking to make sure the ump did rule catch.It’s the right call imo....but how does that take that long to review. The only thing I can think is what to do with the base runner but by letter of the law he never tags on caught ball but who would’ve reacted differently as a runner if seeing a RFielder boot that.
I was thinking of another anology that happens — a trap/catch in the outfield. That happens all the time and the runner has to look at the ump for the call.This happens all the time. Players make what they think is a play without having the umps make calls. Think a bunt down the line, fair or foul?
