Nice size on WR Irvin Charles... just/exactly what we need at that position.

I'd like to point out that Geno's current point guard is the FIRST Texas-based player he has ever landed. She gave Shabazz fits during the preseason mixed team game and is a sure-fire All-American this upcoming season.

What was her thinking? -

"I've spent my whole life in Texas. I'd like to see the rest of the country."

Right. You never know what motivates a kid. A friend of mine in San Diego has a son going to college soon. He got accepted to and a partial academic scholarship to Texas. But he hates hot weather, and isn't going to Austin. He may end up at New Mexico or UCSD.

I always believed (and I suppose someone could ask him) that a kid like Kevin Ollie, coming out of South Central in LA, would see Storrs as a safe haven, an escape. Bill McCartney built the Colorado program recruiting LA gang members to come to Boulder.

According to a entry in the Boneyard Blog area Goren Krasic, a 6-3 240 G/DE from Hackensack High School in NJ has an offer from UConn. (http://the-boneyard.com/blog/goran-krasic-visits/)

He is ranked #44 in the NJ.com Top 50 and also wrestles in the 220lb weight class (17-2 as Sr). Nothing on the traditional recruiting sites yet.

Here is some film: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/3099085/highlights/94586386

According to JB @ Rivals - Krasic is still awaiting his first offer, but has visted UConn.

Still doesn't sound like he has an offer but confirms interest:

Looking at the offer sheet, I don't see one school (outside of BC), of the kids that already committed that is, that I would consider a UConn equivalent or below. To me that says a lot about the kind of prospects Diaco and staff are going after.

It's great to go after them but you need them to commit. You can offer every kid that has a Bama, ND, TaM, LSU, etc. offer, and it looks really nice, but are those kids going to commit to Uconn today? Look at the top 5 on that list and then read their interviews and you get 1 that is a realistic potential commit (Torrez). Hatton seems to be South Carolina bound, Bonner doesn't even show a Uconn offer on Rivals, Ali does not list Uconn in his top 8 and Wilkens shows everyone as medium but talks up ND big time.

You play with the kids that commit. It's time to start getting some verbals from kids that understand and want to play for Uconn. In CT and MA, there are three 3* kids out there that have not committed. Their offer lists put Uconn against BC, Duke and Cuse. Time to get one of them.

JR day was a long time ago. Every other AAC team has at least 1 commit. It's not a time to panic, but it is not too early to be wondering.

FYI... The list is in chronological order to the best of the info I had been able to find. Top 5 were all offered by previous regime... not that there aren't a few reaches by the current regime out there.

Rivals info on Bonner is inaccurate. We were actually Nas' first offer. Scout/247 and the Rivals writers all have Bonner w/ a UConn offer but he seems to be a Wisconsin lean @ this point.

I stand corrected. Did not mean to imply they were the top 5 (although they are a pretty good top 5). Bottom line is that Uconn has not received a verbal for 2015 and it is almost Mother's Day. They are offering some great kids, but some of those kids were not coming to Uconn no matter what. Franklin is killing it at PSU picking up some of the best kids in the northeast (12 at last count), Rutgers has 4 recruits, Cuse has 4 and BC is up to six. That is Uconn's regional competition and Uconn is behind.

As I posted, not time to panic, but certainly time for some concern.

Concern? Maybe.

I honestly know little to nothing about Diaco's methods of recruiting with his staff he's assembled. The previous staff was using procedures and methods that they had used eons ago in upstate New York, and relied mostly on the coaching relationships that had been built over the years to identify, recruit and close on players, and were more than happy to overload and farm out to the prep school market - which I don't have an issue with - I think it's actually a good way to stockpile players and develop them in our region of the country where we don't have the climate and weather for younger players to play - year round.

The staff before that, seemed to like to wait until fall before getting into really recruiting.

What I do know about Diaco is that the guy strikes me as a polished salesman. If my intuition is correct, then he's got a definite plan about he's going about identifying customers, who's a good sell, and how to go about closing on them. Is Diaco an overstock shotgun kind of approach, or is he going to be more of a sniper one target, one hit guy? We'll find out as time goes by.

My guess, is that so far, in the recruiting process for this first half of a full cycle of recruiting for Diaco and co. as a head coach, is that the step of getting to the hard sell/ close in recruiting, has not happened yet for the majority, if not all, of the prospects. That's what I hope at least, and makes sense to me given what I can observe.

I agree though, that if prospects are being given hard sell tactics as of yet, and we haven't closed on a single one - that's a concern.

I'm not sure that it is time to be concerned just yet (not that I don't understand). I think we should bear in mind that the staff is brand new, and has to develop contacts here that they didn't in their old recruiting areas. We are getting more active in targeting high end players, but to your point, they are still choosing other schools. However, more information is popping up, which is nice considering how hard info was to come by in the past. I'd like to see some commitments, but I'll wait until the summer before getting too concerned. Its hard to compare anyone to Franklin. Look at the work he did at Vanderbilt of all places. He pulled consistent high rated classes, and is really good at the recruiting game. He also is selling Penn State, one of the legacy programs in the region. He is going to be a monster on the recruiting front for years to come.
