I don't think so. 1st drive was flawless. He also threw a dime to James Burns about 45yds down field that him in the pads and he dropped it between 2 defenders that fell helplessly to the ground. Shoulda been 6. You can't win if you have no playmakers. Joly early in the year was brutal with drops.

Back to the Big Upgrade. How have we upgraded the offensive line? Not seeing much and we were pretty bad last year after losing Guidone primarily then Haynes last year. We're very thin and young after the starters and definitely can't afford another step backwards. Who's blocking for all these upgraded skill guys? This should have been priority #1 after Welliver was recruited and the season we just had. Are we expecting Evers to outrun the opposing defenses? Good luck with that.

Could it be that Arch Manning will get through 2 years at Texas without taking a meaningful snap (he was third string QB until another QB ahead of him transferred)? QB is a hard position to learn and then win the starting job when you have no experience and the guy ahead of you is older/better (or even just good enough). Would Zion have seen time two years ago but for an injury and then next year he is 3rd string and hardly plays, does him transferring mean he wasn't "the first guy in the door and last guy out" last year?

The older brother of Tyler P went from Clemson to Georgia Tech to UMass and got little playing time at the 1st 2. He played in 9 games for UMass and had 230 yards against UConn with no running attack last year and is back for his senior year. Sometimes a chance to play (at the level you are capable of) is what you need to show out/get better.

Ok to say kid hasn't shown enough to compete for starting job, to impute "attitude" as a major reason with the "maybe" is pretty weak.

Nick will get his chance, and so will the other QBs. Hoping Mora has some good alternatives and the best guy starts in August.

I think it was obvious to anybody who cared to be objective that Charlton could script a few good early series but couldn’t call an active game against changing defenses that baited him into the same mistakes over and over. He was like a new QB who couldn’t read what was happening on the field. The difference between FBS and FCS is generally speed across positions.

So, you can’t run a west coast dink and dunk wideout screen even if it looks like you have a space advantage when the D is fast and getting multiple hats to the point of attack almost when the ball arrives. Yet, Charlton couldn’t resist trying to extend and beat the edge with slower guys. Same goes with zone read blocking and running. Not likely to succeed without speed on the line.

The only thing you can do to beat faster teams is stretch vertically and create numerical disadvantage through misdirection, counter flow and point of attack assignment blocking.

I wouldn't call this a very difficult schedule nor a schedule filled with a lot of high-level competition.

Yes, you can chalk up the Maryland game and three ACC games as likely losses, but outside of that, every other game should be considered winnable. Aside from Wake, they are slated to only face one other top-100 SP+ team at home. Go 5-2 at home and win the UMass game on the road and you have your 6-6 season. I don't feel that is all that unreasonable.

I agree with you on these. I was purely going off the numbers, but I assume Vegas will have some different power ratings when setting the openers.
