I'm wondering if I should plan to do some advertising to replace some of you fatties, assuming there are more than a few of you.

So, what's your BMI? No need to reply, just answer the anonymous poll.

funny timing on this for me. a few weeks back, i stepped on a bathroom scale in maine. i haven't been on any scale since the last time, aboot 5 years ago when i climbed on a log scale in vermont as the knucklehead posse had started a betting thing on our weights. i guessed 220 and it came up 218. i've really upped my pizza eating game in the past year or so, so i was wondering if it showed up in my weight, even tho i feel the same. result? 212, ergo pizza is a 'diet' food. lol.
i have no clue, and never had, any idea aboot my bmi.

So far I'm surprised by the poll. Lots of "healthy weight" numbers. If anyone wants their exact number rather than the estimate in the scale: (weight / height in inches squared) x 703.

While I certainly feel that I am out of shape and can stand to lose some weight, 5'10 and 225 with a BMI of 32 (obese) is extremely deflating....say it ain't so...

Note that @temery said that the age poll posted a few weeks ago was off significantly based on his information (i.e., the demographic here is much older on average than represented in that poll). If that same dynamic occurs here, I imagine the results would be similarly skewed.

And @Deepster will absolutely contest any result that doesn't show a plurality with BMI over 30.

Mine is clearly too high. But I think BMI is outdated and pretty absurd as a measurement. Probably almost every football player is overweight. Tyrese Martin is close to "overweight" and Sanogo already is. Does anybody think a man and a woman at the same height are expected to weigh the same?

I'm 5'10" 170lbs so I just sneak into the healthy category. I find it hard to believe that if I dropped 40 pounds to 130lbs, BMI would also consider me to be healthy. I would look like a meth addict if I was that skinny

I like everyone is on the same page that BMI is not a good measurement of fitness. We might as well just throw this out.

I'm the same boat. I'm 5'9 160ish. Even if I dropped down to 150 pounds, I'd look emaciated.

It's even more annoying for my wife. She's an extremely active person (runner, crossfit, teaches yoga) but she's keeps references BMI as a metric that she's "closer to overweight than underweight".

BMI is an awful metric for health.

Neandertals have large chests, and have a higher weight to height ratio than do more typical humans.
There is no known Neandertal with a BMI less than 26.

I'm currently going back and forth at the borderline between healthy and overweight, but I see that I've got a week to grow another inch taller. I'll cast my vote then.

Yes, but if you were a woman, you'd look like Giselle Bundchen. That's how stupid this thing is. You would probably be wildly underweight.

Right on the border of overweight and obese, steadily gained about 25 pounds the last two years from getting rid of my -arounditis at the gym and actually following a weight training program. All my clothes from when I was a "healthy" weight still fit me so who cares. BMI is meaningless on an individual level.

Spot on. Not to say obesity isn’t an issue but this chart is one of the biggest reasons such a high percentage of people are considered obese.

I’m a few slices of pizza away from “extremely obese” at 5’11” 240. However at 36 inches my waist is firmly considered healthy by the same people who developed BMI.

Is it normal for your BMI to be 10 points higher than your body fat percentage????

BMI is very flawed. That said, if you are in the "obese" category, you are probably at least overweight. If you're body builder or trainer that is freakishly fit and muscular, you know this isn't meant for you. There should be different scales for men/women. But surprisingly, obesity in women is more prevalent than in men.

Maybe they should rename the categories. If you read the clinical notes/descriptions overweight sounds like you're fine, and obese isn't that big of a deal if you don't have medical issues. Maybe +30 should become overweight and +35 becomes obese.

I fluctuate between 27ish and 34ish. When I've been 27 I've had people tell me to stop losing weight. To make me feel better, I watch "My 600 Pound Life." I feel terrible for those people, but it certainly makes me feel fit no matter what my current weight.

Seriously. I'm 6'2" and I can't imagine being healthy at 150 lbs. I couldn't imagine even getting a date at that weight.

That said, I'm solidly obese, but with good bloodwork. And at 65, the only way I'm going to be seeing "overweight" (which for me is under 210) is a long bout of cancer, lol.
