Why is Thabeet so low? He was arguably the best defensive player in all of college basketball for two season, led us to a final four, all big east, lottery pick, etc.
He's probably the most underrated UConn player ever. Party because he never won a national title but mostly because he's one of the all-time NBA busts. I guarantee if he was a stud in the NBA the fanbase would have him top 10.

Reasonable people could argue Caron or Rip on the team they most want to watch. On a college level, Cliff Robinson couldn't carry Donyell Marshall's water.
I think a lot of people forget how good he was. Donyell's Junior year was insane. To me it may be the best single season ever at UConn (could also argue the same for Kemba his last year). I think he would be thought of differently if he made those free throws against Florida.

If I recall correctly, Andrew Hurley has a 100% career 3-point shooting average, and he didn't even make your list!? Shame!

The Boneyard has debated this many times before, but impressions do change over time (for example, a few years ago we had Hamilton as #2).

Here is how my buddy and I come out now.

Regardless of relative position, have we inadvertently forgotten anyone?

TOP TEN

1 Ray Allen best of the best
2 Kemba Walker
3 Richard Hamilton
4 Omeka Okafor
5 Khalid El-Amin
6 Shabazz Napier
7 Donyell Marshall
8 Caron Butler
9 Cliff Robinson
10 Rudy Gay

NEXT TEN

11 James Booknight if no injuries - up?
12 Ben Gordon
13 Ricky Moore
14 Chris Smith started it all
15 Jeremy Lamb
16 A J Price
17 Ryan Boatright
18 Jerome Dyson
19 Christian Vital on a weak team
20 Jalen Adams on a weak team

OTHER NOTABLES (IN ALPHA ORDER)

? Jeff Adrian
? Josh Boone
? Scott Burrell
? Kevin Freeman underrated
? Phil Gamble
? Tate George
? Neils Giffey
? Nadov Henefeld (only one year)
? Donny Marshall
? Kevin Ollie
? Doron Sheffer
? Adama Sonago potentially
? Hasheem Thabeet
The only way this exercise makes sense to me is for everyone to have their own list, based on their own preferences, because our own biases are going to enter the picture anyway, regardless of specified criteria.

My preferences are influenced by statistics and standings, but not nearly as much as by how much I enjoyed watching them play, and to an extent, by how dominant they were. How regularly they imposed their will on a game. How often they made me say "Wow" after a move, shot, block, etc. I ONLY consider what they did at UConn, too. And finally, chips count for something, and I give a bit of weight to how long they played here. Caron, for instance, probably be 1D if he won a chip or stayed another year.

So here's MY top 10. I don't expect anyone to agree with me. That's OK. They are my top ten, not yours. I could list the top three in any order, really. Deep down in my heart, I know that I said wow more at Mek than Ray. Maybe because I was a defensive big myself a million years ago.

Ray 1A
Mek 1B
Kemba 1C
Bazz
Rip
Ricky
Boat
Caron
Ben

This. Exactly. Stats be damned, that choke job in that situation was more than enough to keep him out of my personal top ten.

100%. This is also, in my opinion, part of the reason why Ray is #1 over guys more deserving like Rip, Kemba and Emeka. Ray never won a championship, never went to a final four. GTHO with him being #1.

This, Kemba's junior season, or Ray's junior are IMO the best seasons of any UConn players. Lead guard, vs off Guard vs front court... hard to compare past that IMO.

So subjective and it entirely depends on criteria. Best career, best combined college and NBA career? To me, the very "best UConn players" won a natty. It's why Rip,.who did the hard sled pulling will always be #1 in my head and heart.

Shabbaz won 2 nattys -- one as the stud and the other as a key player. That has to mean something.

Ben Gordon needs to be over Rudy Gay. He won a national championship.

Jeremy Lamb was a key player in '11 natty. We don't win without him. He needs to move up.

Bazz was in no way shape or form better than Chris Smith or Ben Gordon.

Bazz was the point guard with a loaded team his sophomore year and choked.. If Brimah misses 1 free throw Bazz would be at the bottom of the list around 15-18

Too many young fans and bad memories who never saw guys like Donyell and Sheffer making lists.

What exactly did Bouk accomplish in a UConn uniform that puts him so high up above others?
Getting drafted on “ potential “ ???

Jalen Adam’s and Vital over Burrell ? What a joke..

40 foot 3 pointer in double OT to seal win over Pitt in 2002 big east championship at the very least
Plus the guy was the PG to a national title team - jesus that guys gets no love around here ever. The guy started for 4 straight years as a point guard. He's always forgotten about.

Is there a criteria for the list? If it's UConn career, Bouk doesn't crack the top 20.

Hasheem Thabeet was the #2 overall pick in the NBA draft. UConn's highest pick ever (Tied with Okafor). The initial list suggest he was #33 in all UConn greats....

Without any criteria not even a discussion. But by any criteria, Vital and Adams above Sheffer is absurd. It's one thing to put up numbers for poor or mediocre teams. It's another thing to be playing at an all-old Big East level for three years for a team that goes to the second weekend three times.
Sheffer and Burrell are both too low regardless of how the rankings were determined. I agree with your old Big East comments and the same logic applies to Scotty as well as Doron.
