Thank you for the info. Looks like my weekends in February and early March are planned out for me as long as the schedule doesn't change.

Creighton, Xavier and St John's all coming to Elliott. Those I gather will be the top 3 competitors for us.

Pepperdine is a cool school to play. And then USC and the Dirtbags? UCSD looks like they made serval recent WS appearances at the D-II level, as well, so they’re probably another strong program to play. Hell of a west coast trip. Should be exciting! Also happy to see Louisville on the schedule again. When we took 2/3 from them to start the 2019 season, I was over the moon.

March

18-21 @ UC San Diego (4 games)

I hope that'll be confirmed soon, because I'm in San Diego March 16-23 (Vegas the 18 & 19 for Round of 32) :)

Thanks for putting that thought in my head. I plan on being in Las Vegas for some of the March madness to visit a UConn dormmate and a little trip to San Diego would fit in nicely. Looks like 6 hour ride.

3 game series @ UC San Diego March 19, 20 & 21 is confirmed as per the Tritons schedule posted on their website. No start times announced yet. Might alter my Round of 32 Vegas plan

The strength of schedule will be high as always, with this team, that is going to go a long way. Could be a rough start like last year but Penders always has his team playing their best baseball down the stretch.

The games in Cali will be a great test. That's some stiff competition

The California trip will also probably be UConn baseball's first big test of its pitching depth this coming season. Right now we pretty much know who two of the three weekend starters will be this season, Austin Peterson and Pat Gallagher. D1Baseball.com in their fall UConn preview was speculating on a few other candidates for the Sunday starter, the three pitchers mentioned were Cole Chudoba, Enzo Stefanoni, and Ian Cooke. To me it would be really helpful if the freshman Cooke were to win the Sunday starting role, as he would then be a fixture in the weekend rotation for a few years. Whatever the case, we'll see who emerges in the various weekend and weekday pitching starting roles for UConn, as well as which pitchers become work horses out of the bullpen. While the every day lineup appears to be fairly set for UConn, the same cannot be said for a good chunk of the pitching roles on the team. It will be interesting to see how guys who had solid performances in summer ball such as Brendan O'Donnell and Sam Faviieri end up doing when the spring season arrives.

I wonder if Garret Coe can move into at least a weekday role.

I wonder if Garret Coe can move into at least a weekday role.

Last spring Chris Jones during UConn game broadcasts would speculate on Coe's role on the team for the 2022 season, suggesting he could be a midweek starter, so I would not totally rule that possibility out. This all while Coe was doing pretty well last season.

However, there are a few things that might suggest this won't happen. For one, I rarely have heard the UConn coaching staff talking about how good Coe's stuff is on the mound. The other thing is during fall ball there seemed to be very few mentions of Coe in UConn baseball tweets, which would suggest to me that he did not have a great fall ball season (I admit I could be reading to much into this). And finally, Coe did not have a good season with the Bristol Blues in summer ball, as he recorded an ERA of 7.50 in 7 appearances and 6 starts and 30 innings.

On the plus side for Coe, while he generally was not pitching while the game was totally on the line last spring, he did have a successful redshirt freshman season, one that you could definitely build from.

I might stay on the west coast in March Vegas for the NASCAR races, Phoenix on March 13 then see a few UConn games out in CA...

I am planning trip to Las Vegas for the first and second rounds of March Madness so a trip to California sounds like a good option as well. Hopefully Covid rates go down and stay down. Currently, no home spectators are allowed at UC San Diego games but that is only until January 18th.
