Tyrese Martin mentioned to me during Combine week that he hadn't forgotten not being named to an all-Big East team. Now, he's the first Big East player taken in this year's NBA draft. Didn't turn down any chances to compete... 3x3u, Portsmouth, G League Camp, Combine. Earned it.

That really is surprising. I remember in the beginning of the year people were talking about Champagne and Justin Lewis as if they were sure thing first rounders.

The Bulls didn't have a second rounder, so likely Lewis agreed to a two-way in advance with them and then told other teams not to draft him.

Really happy for him. He has NBA athleticism and is a very hard worker. He'll carve out a role. It's good he's not going to GS, much less opportunity to play there. Atlanta is a good team, but needs help.

I feel like he could be a type of player who could have a role off the bench on a playoff team. One of those guys who could make momentum changing plays. Hit a three. Play solid defense. Be physical. Get a huge offensive rebound.

"Two of Martin's UConn teammates also made news on NBA Draft night. Guard R.J. Cole, the Huskies' leading scorer for the last two years, will play with the Los Angeles Lakers' team in the NBA Summer League, while forward Isaiah Whaley signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Charlotte Hornets, earning him an invite to their training camp."

Not based purely on talent but he does check some of the other boxes that James would be wise to focus on and check himself.
