The above post is about New Brunswick, but Detroit, regardless of its crime problems, has a posh section called Detroit Golf. Same houses in Fairfield County would probably list 5-8 times more.

The higher end New Brunswick homes listed, looked less impressive than the higher end ones in Detroit.

Dang I grew up like 20 minutes away. Everyone knew that the campus wasn’t in the best area, half of campus is on the other side of a highway from the dorms; in fact this was a big part of why I didn’t care to stay in-state for Rutgers and thus how I ended up at UConn. Took the train into the city often and could see the issues. But I had non idea it had gotten that bad because yeah Camden Newark and Trenton were always supposed to be way worse

Maybe move Michigan to Detroit or Illinois to Chicago to help Rutgers lose that distinction.

Someone could seriously start a business buying up those old brick homes for $300K and reassembling them anywhere else on earth to triple their $$. It would never happen, but move those 3,500 square foot brick homes even to West Hartford and they’re worth close to $1 million

Chicago isn't that miserable. Michigan State is already in East Lansing.

So what's the most miserable Big East city? None are on this list as far as I can see.

A lot of New Jersey in there. 7 of the top 19 are in New Jersey. The state has some nice places but also many of the worst.

True, but it’s a lot like Connecticut in that. For what it’s worth I’ve spent a lot time in Newark and Camden and only had one issue. Of course, that issue was a bullet through my windshield, but other than that it’s been fine.

Chicago then, not Chicago now. Terrible crime and high taxes. Boeing, Caterpillar and the hedge fund Citadel have recently joined the exodus. Illinois has the worse business climate in the Midwest and a population flight.
