On October 4, 1925, history was made when the 1st game ever played by the New York Giants NFL football team was a non-league game played at Willow Brook Park in New Britain, Connecticut against the All New Britain football team. It was reported by the NY Times that 10,000 people attended the game. New Britain lost the game by a score of 26-0. However, Hartford, CT also had an NFL team for one season in 1926 named the Hartford Blues that also played the All New Britain team twice in 1925 and New Britain won one of the contests 7-0. In those days the NFL teams often scheduled games with independent teams which did not count in the NFL standings or statistics. During the 1925 season, All New Britain played the NFL's Frankford Yellow Jackets twice and only lost each by the scores of 6-0 and 7-0, which is also impressive considering that the Yellow Jackets ended up with an NFL record of 13-7 that year, good enough to come in 6th place out of 20 NFL teams. All New Britain's 1925 record was 8-4, with 3 of their losses coming from NFL teams It appears that "Hard Hittin' New Britain" football goes back a long way, even further than the history of the NY Giants.
