Seminal guitarist and founder (with Richard Hell) of the influential band Television, one of the more musically adept bands to come out of CBGBs in the 70s. Only really had a cult following in US, but had a bigger impact in the UK and Europe where they had a few hits. Long time partner of Patti Smith.

If you weren't connected to the NYC 70s punk scene, you've probably never heard of him, but the dude could play.

What a low watermark for Boneyard RIP threads.
Sadly if a rumor I heard is true, the water level will raise soon. I hope this isn't the case.

Since it appears nobody finds Verlaine's passing noteworthy, just going to drop this obit from RS to tell you why it is. Verlaine's playing influenced a lot of other guitarists from bands that maybe y'all do care about, like Wilco, U2, or REM.
