those things are going to happen anyway. At least this way we can keep the managerial stuff in check
A agree. At least give an existing coach a chance to audition. There's no value in Randy staying.

Hopefully, the coming change will provide motivation. We've never had a winless season, so far.
They better make the most of it this time. Enough with the good 'ol boy retreads. Doesn't have to be Saban Jr. but at least try to swing for the fences. Someone with a nimble coaching-style, contemporary offensive mind, and can recruit competitively.

there's plenty of value in the stability for the rest of the season. there's a lot of stuff that goes on behind the scenes and anyone else is going to be in over their head because the staff is so bad.

and no one on this staff is getting hired as the new HC lol there's nothing to audition for.

I am very relieved this was announced today. Another week of ignoring what we see with our eyes would have been miserable. In so doing we can start the search for the next coach now which is a positive. This can be fixed and should be. With all the physical things in place to support a good program it should attract a decent young coach.

50/50 on this.

Unless you have a candidate 100% in your back pocket hirable right now, an EOY switch is probably best.
Waiting until EOY opens up the talent pool significantly, but also elongates your recruits twisting in wind.

As long as a good hire is on the other end of this, it's generally a good thing, but...........
The rest of the season will be absolute torture as we watch recruits bail and losses pile up. Edsall needs to just step aside. Pick an interim coach and move forward. The team need different leadership now……not at the end of the season
Putting an interim in now doesn't help keep recruits.

Moving on from a coach who has failed this badly and doesn't even have a buyout isn't exactly a tough decision.

I think his hands were tied last coaching search so I don't blame him too much for Edsall, but finding the right coach now is where he proves himself.
UConn has to give him the keys now, no more listening to the clowns who got us here. Benedict's background has been football since his college playing days and he was the COO of Auburn athletics, one of the biggest football programs in the country. He needs to be given the financial resources like he was to get Hurley and one of the best college basketball coaching staffs in the country....

He knew where we are currently in the college landscape and how being stuck in an even further depleted AAC could have killed the bball program. He got us Hurley and gave him the funds to get us this staff. He got us in the best position for basketball to get right back to the top and he has shown he can get us the right kind of schedule as a football independent. Now give him the resources and let him make the call on the future of UConn football.

Umm, that's going to happen anyway. UConn is not going to win any more games by getting rid of him now.

The only thing this fanbase should be focused on is if this administration is serious about making a commitment to this sport going forward. And that will be answered with the coaching search. People should be glued to it. Nothing else matters. An administration makes 3 bad hires in a row when a fanbase is asleep at the wheel allowing them to do it.

Need to double their existing financial commitment if we want to be taken seriously. $2M for a HC and $2-$2.5 for an assistant pool
maybe some of these boosters and NFL guys that get on twitter and act dumbfounded can help make that happen.

financial support has always been one of our biggest issues. other schools have guys dropping bags to keep their programs competitive. we really don't outside of a few guys.

He just can't stand to know if anyone else on his staff could win a game without him. A glass ceiling to the end.

In any event, not the worst outcome although I dread him trotting Jack Zergiotis out next week.
If Jack Zergiotis is playing, we have zero chance. He has no football sense that I can see. Forget the arm strength… I was smarter.

Head of the BOT is a lot more Athletics friendly than most I wonder if that makes any difference.

It would take far more than a good hire. It also requires a much higher budget for staff and recruiting, and much more flexibility in the academic and integrity qualifications of football players. Not to mention how we recruit as an independent with no chance to play for conference championships and limited access to bowl games.

It's really easy and simplistic to blame "idiots" not as smart as you for bad hires. It's much more difficult to ask whether we can or should expect the Governor to appoint Trustees who are willing to risk us being Baylor in scandals to have Baylor's improvement in football since we beat them home and home. I doubt the state is willing to support that level of relaxed standards.

But yeah, keep beating your chest that if "they" were just better at hiring the right guy we'd be above where we were in 2010.

Call it whatever you want. I'm both thankful for the 2004-2010 run and irritated that we may never come close to that level of competency again, when that level of competency was 9-4/8-5.
Your program can only get better, it can’t get any worse, losing to a bottom tier team like Holy Cross at home. Get “the right coach“ this time. A coach that will revive the program. Bring in a competent staff that can get the desired results, and bring back fans that have given up on the team, and abandoned all hope. The right coach is out there. All you have to do is find him, and bring him in. Isn’t it time that this program gets turned around?

The best part about this is it changes the the fanbases narrative. We can now move on from throwing rocks at the program to the healthier and far more constructive who is the next guy discussion.
Far better than wasting time speculating about something that probably won’t happen tIll the end of the season. How about routing for the kids on the field!!

The other position I want to see is a “Director of Prep School Relations” on the recruiting staff side of the house. This state is FLUSH with prep school talent in the Hartford area and Southern CT. We have to be able to tap into that going forwards.
