aggressive hitting style (blue jays) vs analytics approach (Yankees) homeruns by windmill swing even with two strike and ok to strike out a lot, take everything borderline outside strike zone (passivity at the plate) and wait on a perfect pitch etc.

If he gets the triple crown (currently 1st in HR, 1st in BA, T-3rd in RBI (1st in hits too)) would his season be more impressive than Miggy's 2012 triple crown season? What impresses me is he is just 22, and before this season started, had only played in 183 games!!

What year is the next one if any that we get a complete full healthy season out of DeGrom (my guess is 2025).

Keep um coming!

Meanwhile, here’s a favorite episode from last season that combines UConn, fan support, hot sauce, and baseball park design from the preeminent architect of MLB.

Can we bring back the game-winning RBI stat? Maybe redefine it!

UConn logo

should we revert to the old husky dog logo?

Answer: we never should have done it in the first place.

What is their opinion of robot umpires and will the MLB ever adopt them?
Great question. I've been frustrated with the inconsistent balls & strikes calling of the home plate umpires. I also hate when home plate calls check swings. How can he be watching the pitch and the swing? I think 1st & 3rd should automatically call check swings, no need to ask. Ideally, home plate umpire should be there to announce if it's a ball or strike, but it should be determined through technology.

At the end of the game managers sit and answer questions. Since the quant guys in the front office
have so much say in the managing parameters shouldn't they sit and answer questions too.?
Given their status now, they need to be answerable to the public and by extension to the press.
We should be able to find out what they think and why they think it.

Are you predicting that he will need another Tommy John surgery?

Yea. Die hard Mets fan here. Knowing Mets karma, he rests this whole off season, discomfort come April or May next year, then TJ surgery, they keep him out all 2023 to be safe, then innings limit ease back in 2024, then god willing all goes well full year in 2025 when he is like 38.

this is life as a Mets fan.

A life I know all too well.

Given the poor pitching outcomes for most who have had a second TJ surgery, I doubt we'd ever see him as a starter again if that happens.

It will be very interesting to see what happens if/when he starts to feel discomfort again while he is ramping up this season, especially since next season is his last under his current contract.

It would be the most Mets thing ever if they give him the largest contract ever for a starting pitcher only to see him never be one again.

Yep, the Metropolitans are working on a nice little history of misery. Decades to go before they reach Bosox level, but a fine start indeed. ;)

When are players going to learn to hit against the shift

When are managers going to leaver pitchers in the game that are pitching well

Thank you so much for contributing to our Sliders & Curveballs Topps mailbag. Some thoughtful questions here. Between the BY/FB/Twitter we have 80 questions to pick from. One more week before we record. We also have a #21 card too!

Good Luck.

What does he think of the rule change idea that allows each team to have a dog in a chalk box near home plate. If the dog can get to a batted ball in the infield (no bunting) before the defense, it's a single.

If the dog gets to the ball in the outfield, the runner advances until a defensive player can catch the dog (dog has a flag, like in flag football).

All bites retire the offensive side.
