Ode to a Small but Doughty Band of Sisters
(with apologies to Ernest Lawrence Thayer)

It looked extremely shaky for the UConn five that day
And many fans saw doom at hand; the streak might slip away.
And maybe even Tony feared that this time they might fail
‘Cause Katy Lou, who’d got the flu, was puking in a pail.

With zebras calling fouls galore, the bench a little weak
It looked as if the Terrapins might really end the streak.
But that third stanza brought a storm of threes -- and fours(!)
It surely seemed just then they’d own the Turtles’ hardwood floors!

Yet when they'd given all they had, the lead was fading fast
Then up stepped our Ms. Chong to give the final coop de grass!
And keep the streak a-rollin, and the sporting world impressed
That in all of college BBall UConn’s Huskies were the best.

The moral of the story -- you will see, if not obtuse --
You just can't beat a group of kids that flat ree-fyoose to loose! ;)
And sick or well or injured they play on to show who’s boss.
‘Cause they didn't come to UConn to accept no freakin’ loss!

We Husky fans are lucky, we've been treated to the best;
Maya and Diana, and Rebecca and the rest.
We've seen some gutsy come-backs and some damn fine basketball
And gotten rotten spoiled as all those banners filled the wall.

Yet through the years of triumph, and the trophies in the case,
The aura of the Huskies as they always set the pace,
It's still my firm opinion, and I'm certain that I'm right;
That we've not seen, and we won't see, better than we saw that night!

Nuestro Zorro Amigo---Well you've done it este vez. Brought tears a mis ojos, you have. Am so touched by the honest heroics of our band of girls. They are inspirations. To be sure.
And your poetry, stimulated by the joy in their achievements which we all feel, has put a large smile on my small face.
My gratitude.

The level of first-rate news and information reportage on the BY is matched only by the wonderful sense of screwiness!

Thanks for both!

As to the poetry, an alternate title could have been "The Barf Felt 'Round the World."
